The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center, provides tution-free acadamic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to the lifelong learning, college access, and economic self-sufficiency. The Bronx EOC is administered by Bronx Community College, CUNY.
Under the Supervision of the Director of Student Affairs or designee, the EOC Career Advisor/Job developer provides job development, job preparation, certification testing, internship placement, and job placement , and graduates and promotes Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) services to prospective community partners, healthcare partners, and employers.
The duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Assist and provide resources for students/graduates as they explore career and/or job options
Administer, interpret, and/or discuss the results of career interest inventories with individuals or groups
Assess their employability of students/graduates and refer them to avaliable internship sites and job openings
Schedule qualified students/graduates for internship and employment interviews
Monitor the academic and career development progress of students
Assist in development placement opportunties(internships, externships, jobs) in program-related areas
Assist inplanning and organizing employer meetings, jobfairs, career days, and other student programs
Work closely with instructors, acadamic advisors, and other staff to develop student success strategies as part of the care team
Conduct follow-up services and job verifications
Maintain accurate records of all services provided
Provide monthly data on internships and employment
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm. Some evnings hours required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
Direct experience in advising, outreach, and connecting non-traditional students and those with acadamic deficits, life challenges, and barriers to employment. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are needed; customer service orientation is essential, as is working effectively with faculty, staff and students. Profiency in MS Office required: experience working in admissions a plus; experence proctoring exams a plus; experience with academic or career advising software a plus. Knowledge of Banner student information system and experience conducting outreach is a plus.
