Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $49,700-$85,700.

About the Job
The Margo Souza Student Leadership Center is charged with providing an engaging, educational, and involved co-curricular leadership experiences for UC Merced students. The Assistant Director, Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center, under the direction of the Associate Director, supports this mission by working as a key member of the Office of Margo Souza Student Leadership and Community Engagement Center teams to support day-to-day operations, programs, and long-range planning for the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center.
The Assistant Director is responsible for creating and facilitating the programmatic planning for the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center. The Assistant Director assists in the planning of workshops, developmental activities, and large-scale programs in the Souza Center. This includes the management of the Yosemite Leadership Program (YLP). YLP is a partnership program between UC Merced, Yosemite National Park and the National and California State Park systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership Programming
Manages and supports the programmatic planning and execution for the center.
Provides coordination for large-scale events including the annual Leadership Conference and Leadership Awards.
Supports student staff and student facilitators in their roles within the Center's programming.
Develops and leads training, workshops, and presentations for campus and community partners.
Coordinates, facilitates and supports the logistics for campus-wide leadership programs.
Cultivates and maintains partnerships with campus staff and faculty, community partners, and university leadership.
Develops curriculum for additional leadership education programs, as necessary.
Leads the maintenance of the Center's website, social media, and marketing strategy in collaboration with student staff to increase access and awareness to student leadership opportunities.
Conducts research of best practices to improve program practice.
Yosemite Leadership Program
Partners with Yosemite National Park staff to lead and manage the Yosemite Leadership Program (YLP), the two-year leadership development series, wilderness trips, cohort activities, environmental service projects and capstone-legacy projects.
Coordinates the annual recruitment, application, and selection process.
Plans and leads weekend leadership experiences, including overnight retreats.
Composes annual assessment report for the program.
Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external organization stakeholders critical to program success.
Direction to Student Staff
Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises Souza Leadership Center student staff.
Meets regularly with student staff members for ongoing support.
Maintains a working knowledge of university student personnel policies.
Ensures student staff remain in compliance with personnel policies, including hiring processes, timesheet deadlines, and mandatory training.
General Administration
Monitors, manages, and analyzes program budgets and accounts.
Participates in and supports fundraising efforts and grant writing.
Assists in creating partnerships with community/off-campus agencies.
Represents the office on campus-wide committees.
Develops and implements assessment and evaluations of student programs and events.
Assists with the development of unit assessment goals.
Provides supervisor with semester program progress reports.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's in related area from an accredited institution. (Required)
Advanced degree in related area from an accredited institution. (Preferred)
Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in related field. (Required)
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of advising and mentoring techniques.
Experience creating, implementing and measuring effectiveness of training models and programs. Ability to deliver educational workshops.
Ability to provide evidence of prior success in working effectively to develop curricular and cocurricular programs, and fostering successful partnerships to develop and expand leadership and experiential education opportunities for students. (Preferred)
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. (Preferred)
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization. (Preferred)
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. (Preferred)
Ability in problem identification, reasoning. (Preferred)
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. (Preferred)
