Discover Your Career at Emory University

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Description

To increase diversity within the faculty, the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing has established the Diversity and Equity Teaching Fellowship. Early career nurse educators/scholars are sought for the rank of Assistant Professor on the clinical track within the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN), who will spend the first year of their faculty appointment as an Equity and Inclusion Teaching Fellow focused on teaching excellence. Our commitment to an inclusive culture and a diverse nursing faculty is fundamental in realizing our goals to excel in nursing education and contribute to national efforts to address faculty shortage and health care needs of the increasingly diverse U.S. population. The NHWSN Equity and Inclusion Teaching Fellowship is designed to optimize the fellow's success in a primarily teaching-focused (non-tenure track) academic position. The fellowship will have four primary areas of focus: 1) nurse educator competencies, 2) leadership in the academy, 3) scholarship in the academy, and 4) life-long mentorship development to advance diversity.

Fellows selected for the position will be appointed as Assistant Professor, clinical track and spend 50% effort in teaching, 10% effort in service, and 40% effort focused on equity and inclusion teaching fellowship activities including professional development and mentoring in the tripartite areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. We encourage individuals from historically underrepresented groups within the nursing faculty workforce to apply, particularly those whose teaching and scholarship focus on enhancing excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and clinical settings. Upon completion of the fellowship, individuals will transition to a customary Assistant Professor, clinical track workload and responsibilities.

Eligibility:

  • Less than five years of academic teaching experience.
  • Earned doctorate (PhD, DNP, EdD or equivalent degree).
  • Individuals from historically underrepresented populations in the nursing profession are welcome to apply. Commitment to NHWSN strategic priorities around diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and social determinants of health.
  • Strong interest in serving as a role model and mentor for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to a long-term goal of mentoring junior faculty from historically underrepresented groups.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible for full-time appointment at the assistant professor rank, clinical track
  • Eligible for registered nursing licensure in the state of Georgia

The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is committed to attracting diverse world-class faculty to advance the School's mission to educate visionary nurse leaders and scholars, generate and apply knowledge, and transform nursing, health, and systems of health care within the local and global community. We are seeking applications for doctoral prepared clinical track faculty to advance our teaching and scholarship mission. We invite applications from doctoral prepared individuals with less than five years of experience as nurse educators in the academic or clinical settings and are willing to develop a focused area of educational or clinical scholarship. Priority will be given to individuals who can teach across a wide array of clinical topics at the pre-licensure or post-licensure level and for individuals who have certification and current or recent practice as advanced practice registered nurses (APRN's). As an integral part of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center of Emory University, the School of Nursing is a nationally ranked leader in nursing education and practice. The School offers educational programs across the spectrum of nursing education. We provide a creative and energetic environment where clinical track faculty can build a career with national impact. Clinical track faculty engage in collaborative relationships with Emory's strong interdisciplinary initiatives in: Cardiovascular Health, Data Science, Omics and Genetics/Genomics, Neuroscience, and Palliative Care. The School provides many other interdisciplinary collaborative opportunities, including with colleagues in Emory's Rollins School of Public Health, Emory's College of Arts and Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Appointment for the Diversity and Equity Teaching fellowship will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia. Apply online by providing current curriculum vitae (CV), cover letter describing specific interest, and contact information for three references.
