Scope of Job: Plans, directs and administers all aspects of the University's student housing services, residence life and related facilities. Develops and implements strategic plans, sets departmental goals, and monitors progress.
Description of Duties: • Directs and oversees the day-to-day management, maintenance, and administration of the university’s student housing facilities. • Focuses on building community and developmental/educational programming by enhancing current efforts and coordinating new initiatives, including first-year programs, theme houses, and living-learning communities. • Initiates work with faculty and staff to enhance programming where possible; Aligns programming with UTRGV initiatives. • Develops and executes long and short term goals for assigned areas, including marketing initiatives. • Develops effective policies, protocols, processes, and structures to ensure the health, safety, security, and welfare of students; ensures compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards, and laws. • Responds to campus and student emergencies as needed and serves as a resource in the on-call duty rotation. • Provides fiscal management for department budget and develops annual budget; assists with projections for budget forecasting related to Residence Life. • Evaluates and assesses university’s housing and residence life operations including but not limited to housing occupancy, furniture and equipment inventory, retention, and projection trends. • Ensures an effective key management and security system. • Manages other department operations including, but not limited to, schedules, room condition reports, and maintenance schedules. • Supervises the housing selection, assignment, and transition process for all students, which include, roommate matching and adjustment challenges when they arise; coordinates room assignments and changes; mediates roommate conflicts; administers and manages housing contracts and confirms that all room assignments and billings are completed and communicated to students and to appropriate constituencies. • Collaborates closely with the Facilities Management to identify and respond to immediate maintenance needs, as well as to provide input to plans for deferred maintenance and capital requests; works directly in the design and construction phases of all residence hall construction and renovation projects. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Required Experience: Five (5) years of administrative experience in residential life or in a closely related field.

Working Conditions: Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.
Other: Knowledge of current educational trends, student development theory, residential life philosophy and housing operations. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
