Position: This is a full-time, annually renewable position with an anticipated salary range of $53,000-$65,000 per year with an excellent comprehensive benefit program.
Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging and working closely with the Dean of Student Engagement & Wellness, the Case Manager & Compliance Coordinator contributes to creating a vibrant campus community characterized by a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging for students with diverse identities. This position works with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging to coordinate interventions and support for students who are struggling, have exhibited behavioral concerns, experieneced a traumatic event, and/or need general assistance navigating university resources.
This position also provides leadership for safety and wellness initiatives. This position works with campus officials in a variety of offices including the Public Safety, Facilities and Operations, Residential Life, Athletics, the Health Center, Counseling Services, etc. and serves as a campus liaison with the Crookston Police Department, the Crookston Fire Department, University of Minnesota Department of Emergency Management, Polk County Emergency Management Office, and other local agencies and professionals who assist with campus health, safety, and security.
Functions and Duties:
Case Management (30%)
Acknowledge the specific and particular realities of faculty and students of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other minoritized communities with Northwest Minnesota while also connecting communities to local and regional experiences in order to foster a greater sense of belonging.
Engage one-on-one with students to identify and mitigate barriers to personal success, including threat assessment toward self and others.
Manage the university’s food pantry and work closely with students who have challenges with mental and physical health, food insecurity, are in need of warm clothing and winter wear, or have social challenges.
Provide appropriate referrals to campus support services in a timely manner and coordinate intervention plans to minimize or resolve student barriers.
Provide leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition related to mental health and wellness.
Co-Chair the university’s Care Team which includes representatives from Athletics, Student Success, the Disability Resource Center, Counseling Services, the Director of Diversity, Equity, & Belonging, and Residential Life.
Complete (and stay current in) QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training and collaborate with wellness resources on campus to provide programs to students.
Other duties as assigned.
Postvention (40%)
Help connect students with community resources as needed.
Track individual cases and student progress and address new or emerging concerns as they arise.
Create and manage re-entry strategies for students returning to school after a psychological hospitalization or after a voluntary medical withdrawal from school.
Compliance (30%)
Facilitate student learning modules in alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, and other well-being initiatives (currently Everfi).
Routinely review the current Clery structure and reporting process to ensure compliance with regulations and University policy.
Work with the Athletic Director to collect crime statistics on the major cities that UMN Crookston teams visit every year.
Facilitate educational training programs for faculty, student affairs educators, staff, and students regarding crime prevention, emergency procedures, public safety and other regulatory requirements, revising, updating, and improving training experiences as necessary.
Remain current with best practices in higher education safety and security.
Foster an educational approach to public safety aimed at fostering community engagement. Also take actions to prevent, curb, and/or respond to acts of violence, acts against community, and bystander inaction.
Maintain a bias toward decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students’ unique cultures, experiences, and backgrounds as strengths.
Build a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and “over-communication” that fosters transparency between senior leaders with students and student affairs educators as well as enhancing collaboration within and across departmental lines.
Contribute to assessment, accreditation, and other continuous improvement processes.
Demonstrate leadership and professionalism through skills and dispositions related to active listening, de-escalation and conflict mediation, confidentiality, and ethical educational practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree plus 2 years of relevant experience
