The Director of Student Life, Inclusion, and Belonging is a member of the Student Support Team. This position will work closely not only with the Student Support Team, but advising coordinators, the Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (EIJ) Leadership Team, and the entire Marymount community to ensure that all aspects of student life are equitable, inclusive, and serve the well-being of every student. This position will also work with the BIPOC Community Advisory Committee (composed of alumni and parents), to advance and coordinate DEIJ programming for the alumni and parent communities.
The Director of Student Life, Inclusion, and Belonging oversees the following: Student Diversity Awareness Board, student clubs/organizations, student meetings & assemblies, and assists with the Associated Student Council and overall student life programming.
The primary goal of the Director of Student Life, Inclusion, and Belonging is to develop positive relationships amongst and within all constituencies. She/he must be a proactive, effective, and a visible leader who works to advance and foster a community true to Marymount’s mission with the core purpose of educating and empowering young women to live lives of consequence as ethical leaders with a global perspective and an unshakable commitment to the common good. In addition to overseeing existing programs, the Director of Student Life, Inclusion, and Belonging helps develop student leadership, acts as a resource for the grade-level Advising Coordinators, Faculty, and EIJ leadership team, and collaboratively problem-solves as issues arise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with other school leaders to fulfill the strategic goals of Marymount High School including goals pertaining to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Assists with the student life calendar and operations related to student life
Serve as a member of the Admission Committee
Maintain membership and active participation in related professional organizations
Program and Project Management
Provide leadership for student life, equity, and inclusion programs and personnel
In collaboration with the AHOS and members of the Student Support Team, review policies and oversee and integrate DEI best practices related to student life at Marymount
Provide leadership for students and faculty to plan and execute DEI initiatives and events, including faculty and staff meetings and professional development
Work with the EIJ Leadership Team, Faculty, and Academic Council to ensure that the curriculum integrates DEI best practices.
Assist with and work with Associated Student Government, including coordinating the election process, offering leadership programming, and facilitating regular meetings with the Student Council President and representatives
Oversee community-wide dances (~3)
Oversee and work with the Student Diversity Awareness Board (SDAB) including coordinating, and facilitating regular meetings
Oversee student clubs and organizations
Facilitate ongoing student events and traditions for all grade levels (weekly, monthly, quarterly)
In collaboration with the AHOS and Student Support Team, plan Student and Parent Orientations
Assist the AHOS and Student Support Team in organizing and planning parent education evenings and specialized BIPOC current parent programming and services including specific communication and engagement strategies.
Coordinate annual attendance at the NAIS People of Color Conference and Student Diversity Leadership Conference
Assist with AP and PSAT testing
Assist with all student life objectives
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree or advanced training in diversity-related fields and/or student affairs preferred
Minimum of 3 years experience as a leader or member of diversity, equity, and inclusion council, committee, or board.
Strong work ethic and high level of integrity
Experience designing and administering community-building, multicultural, diversity, and inclusion programs and curricula in schools
Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, and composure in all situations involving students, families, and colleagues
Proven record of success in working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders
Demonstrates commitment to respect a broad range of views and to build mutual understanding, trust, and shared commitment over time
Exceptional written, public speaking, and presentation skills
Demonstrates knowledge of current research, trends, and practice in community, diversity, inclusion, and multicultural affairs
An attitude that fosters compassion, empathy, and kindness in oneself and others
