Position Summary:
The Office of Educator Preparation (OEP) in the Graduate School of Education (GSE) coordinates the clinical placements of teacher candidates. As part of their overall teacher education, graduate students engage in a year-long residency in a partner school or district. During the residency year, Resident Teachers will complete coursework while co-teaching alongside a partner district Mentor Teacher. Clinical Experience Coaches are the face of UB, GSE, OEP, and the UB Teacher Residency program with our residency school sites. Within their purview, CECs connect with the schools and the communities in which they are located to cultivate a rapport that is mutually beneficial to both the residency school site and the University at Buffalo. CECs facilitate the activation of much of the theory from coursework into practical applications as students progress through residency.They accomplish this through the preparation and implementation of effective curriculum for small cohorts of resident teachers during their residency experiences in the teacher education program.
Clinical Experience Coaches have three primary roles:
Supporting Resident-Mentor Pairs in their Co-teaching Relationship
Supporting School Partnerships
Serving as Expert Teacher Leaders
Responsibilities include:
Develop relationships and maintain regular communication with Mentor Teachers (MTs) and school leaders to support the residency year experience
Facilitate sessions with MTs and Resident Teachers (RT) during pre-residency professional learning workshops related to best practices and protocols for MT, Resident Teacher, and CEC
Attend regular program meetings to support the residents' overall experience in the classroom
Engage in individual activity that fosters community within the cohort and strengthens our relationships with the schools
Observe residents and resident-mentor pairs at regular intervals throughout the residency year and while the resident has assumed various roles in the classroom
Provide systematic, data-based assessments of teaching and coaching throughout residency
Participate in candidate interviews during the resident selection process
Commitment (12 months)
Conduct monthly observations
Attend monthly meetings with OEP and UBTR program team
Facilitate one monthly small-group meeting of residents
Participate in consultations with MTs and RTs as needs arise
Assist in planning, implementing, and leading summer professional learning for mentors and residents

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree or professional certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree and have a minimum of three years of certified, K-12 classroom teaching experience in schools with diverse student populations.
Urban teaching required for funded programs with BPS
Experience providing instructional coaching or mentoring is preferred
