JOB SUMMARY:
The Cultural and Spiritual Life Centers of Northeastern University are dedicated to the support, celebration, and advancement of cultural identity and affinity. Programs center on Northeastern's rich communal traditions and intersectional identities, advance cultural/interfaith literacy and dialogue/community-building skills, foster intellectual/personal/spiritual/vocational growth, build bridges with local, national, and global cultural, religious/spiritual/humanist, and social justice communities, promote wellness and wholeness through practices of self-care, advance civic engagement, social action, and global citizenship as learners work to build a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
The Assistant Director is a member of a dynamic team of professionals focused on developing an intentional and student-centered space for the exploration of identity on campus. The Assistant Director implements, evaluates, and develops dynamic experiential programs promoting a deeper sense of belonging and advancing the University's ambitious diversity/equity/inclusion plan and works with both domestic and international students to promote deeper dialogue and relationships among them.
With a focus on short-term objectives, The Assistant Director actively participates in the successful implementation and development of departmental and interdepartmental operations that align the Cultural and Spiritual Life's mission with the strategic planning efforts of the Office of the Chancellor and University partners.
This position involves significant involvement in evening and weekend programs and events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1) Program Management and Operations: Administers program operational and administrative processes and procedures. Implements dynamic experiential peer to peer programs promoting a deeper sense of belonging and advancing the University's ambitious diversity/equity/inclusion plan through interdepartmental/cross-functional programs and initiatives. Assists in execution of signature programming. Oversees processes including program assessment and evaluation. Analyzes assessment data and provides recommendations for improvement. Helps to improve tracking and outcomes of service and engagement programming. Administers operations that may include space, scheduling, safety and security, marketing, fundraising, and events.
Serves on various working groups and committees to improve future program operations. Ensures compliance with internal and external regulations and policies. Organizes meetings/events, develops, and maintains agendas. May contribute to budget planning.
Manage and lead the programming and support for the Student Justice Collective
Logistical and Programming support for Peace & Social Justice Week
Logistical and Programming support for EMPOWER Student of Color Collective including Retreat and Conference
Serve as Facilitator for Cultural Life Education Team
Support CIE, SJRC, and CSL programs as needed
2) Student Engagement: Provides programmatic and logistical support and advice to ensure effective organizational and event management and ensure student safety. May be responsible for supervising student groups after university office hours. Develops opportunities for student organizations to build stronger connections with centers and/or services. Assists with key intersectional/interdepartmental programs such as leadership conferences and retreats, new student and staff orientations, and other programs. Works with both domestic and international students and promotes deeper dialogue and relationships among them. May lead marketing and social media efforts to build awareness of and participation in local programs and services. Collaboratively plans, executes, and markets program events and services to community partners and stakeholders.
Supervise and manage SJRC Program Assistants and work-study student employees to assist with operations of the SJRC.
Serve as a liaison to support student organizations and advise student leaders as needed
1-3 years of experience working with historically marginalized populations or in administrative, programming, higher education setting.
Deep awareness of issues and concerns related to the social, cultural, and religious/spiritual experience of young adults, meaningful experience working with historically underrepresented/marginalized populations, and skills in developing learning experiences for around culture, justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, global citizenship, and/or leadership development.
Comprehensive knowledge of program administration, evaluation, and development for student-focused programs and events.
Strong cross-cultural communication skills with deep awareness of issues and concerns relevant to cultural affinity group(s).
Demonstrated effectiveness working with students and colleagues in an experiential education program (service-learning, undergraduate research, or other) as an educator, advisor, and leader.
Experience developing strong reciprocal community partnerships.
Demonstrated leadership effectiveness.
Ability to collaborate and work in a team setting with diverse populations.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills as well as strong time management and organizational skills.
Fluency with Microsoft Office, Zoom and familiarity with Google Docs.
Proficiency with web design, electronic means of communication, and social media platforms.
