Position Description
Assists in providing leadership and direction for an assigned area within the athletic department. Responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of the department. Responsible for employees in the assigned area.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the continued success and future growth of the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy.
  • Responsible for community engagement and life skills/character development, including team and individual community outreach and diversity, inclusion, and equity programming.
  • Responsible for tracking/monitoring community outreach activities.
  • Responsible for all Life Skill programming (Financial Literacy, Social Media, Nutrition, etc.)
  • Primary departmental contact on all community relations initiatives.
  • Develop best practices and a collaborative departmental approach.
  • Communicate with the appropriate personnel regarding recording the time spent in the community.
  • Implement processes to activate community relations partners when group ticket opportunities arise.
  • Develop, lead, and execute a strategically focused community outreach plan designed to collaborate with community partners through staff time, donated items, and sponsorship support of events.
  • Manage the internal autograph request process and develop best practices for our coaches to consider as they engage with the local charitable community groups for speaking engagement or promotions.
  • Manage the invitation of internal staff as representatives to local charitable events. Athletic Department Event Support (Tables, Attendees)
  • Set up, manage, and communicate community relations opportunities and develop/collect data to provide information for a Community Relations annual recap.
  • Teach IS 1200 courses for freshmen student-athletes.
  • Summer Bridge: Evaluate, update, and develop summer transition programming to welcome and educate incoming student-athletes.
  • Develop and implement coach and student-athlete-driven “life-skills” sessions for a diverse student-athlete population, including international students, 1st Generation Strategies, Gender, and Sexual Orientation.
  • Comply with all the NCAA, Big 12, and Texas Tech University rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three (3) years experience in an intercollegiate athletics department or other work experience that would demonstrate the necessary background and knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of college athletics administration, student affairs, and/or student-athlete development programs.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and prioritize goals and objectives while developing and building relevant programming.
  • Ability to maintain good relations among numerous interest groups.
  • Skilled in all forms of communication.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the student-athlete experience and high-performing athletics programs.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
