Brief Summary of Work for this position:

The Registered Nurse functions as a member of a clinical team in the provision of health care in a fast-paced college health center. Responsibilities include obtaining pertinent medical information during check-in; educating patients; providing care and treatment to patients consistent with nursing practice and theory; administering vaccinations, and performing basic laboratory tests. Must demonstrate the ability to assess a patient's medical problem accurately. May assume a lead role in the clinic whenever necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.


Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

  • A BSN is preferred
  • Previous work experience in a college health setting is preferred

Required Certifications or Licensure:

  • Graduate of a state accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina, by the N.C. Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR certification required by time of hire.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (SHC) is to provide student-centered affordable,
quality health and preventive services to the students of UNCW. The SHC provides comprehensive
medical services, a retail pharmacy, health education, and intervention services. Utilizing an
ecological health model, the SHC supports collegiatesuccess and sustained health and well-being for all UNCW students.

College/School Information:

The Division of Student Affairs consists of fourteen functional departments, each of which is responsible for providing a variety of student support, service, and educational programs which are accessible to all members of the university community. The staff members are dedicated individuals known for their passion and commitment to implementing programs and services that affect student development over the course of a lifetime. Student Affairs provides excellent delivery of student services that are responsive to student needs and promotes the quality of life and education both inside and outside the classroom. We build institutional traditions and lifelong affiliations through creative programs, vibrant student organizations, and a living/learning environment built on core values and uncompromising principles. The Division is a leader and primary spokesperson for students.
