Mannes School of Music, College of Performing Arts, The New School
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Mannes, the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs oversees and supports the administrative and operational aspects of academic programs, student affairs, and faculty affairs of the Mannes School of Music at The New School. Â
The Assistant Director provides day to day leadership for students and faculty at Mannes and is responsible for operationalizing academic affairs across the school. They provide expertise in The Assistant Director manages systems and tools that track and support the success of the more than 550 students and over 100 part-time faculty that study and teach at Mannes each year.Â

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the annual course planning cycle, including oversight of course building, faculty course assignments, and assigning of course times and spaces.
Oversee and maintain curriculum for Mannes degrees, certificates, majors, and minors. Manage the curricular revision process, working with the Provost Office on revisions and updates.
Manage the academic catalog. Oversee updates and ensure the accuracy of the catalogâ™s curriculum charts, degree requirements, and academic policies.
Work directly with students and their advisors to develop and implement individualized courses of study, including but not limited to facilitation of curricular substitutions, degree progress exceptions, double majors, dual degrees, minor programs, non-major lessons, tutoring, remediation, and registration in specialized coursework within Mannes and other academic units at CoPA and across The New School.Â
Manage the first-year experience for Mannes students including advising and evaluating transfer credits, administering and evaluating placement exams, mass registration into first-year experiences, and communication with incoming students in coordination with Admission and Student Success.
Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to part-time faculty department coordinators.
Provide instructional design feedback to faculty in the development of course proposals, curricular revisions, syllabi and learning outcomes.
Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in music, arts administration, or a related field
Three years of experience in a higher-education or arts education environment
Deep knowledge of the performing arts beyond classical music, including jazz, drama, dance, and related fields
Exceptional written and verbal communication skillsÂ
Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to present complex information to various audiences
Ability to manage multiple tasks, to prioritize them in creative and responsible ways, and work effectively with a wide range of other offices.
Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New Schoolâ™s suite of data systems including WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live
