Student Service Advisor

Position Summary:
Provides front line service to university community relating to financial aid, student accounts, registration; conducts presentations regarding financial aid process for prospective students/families.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience that equates to four years.
PC and online mainframe experience.
Word processing, spreadsheet and database experience.
Strong public speaking and written communication skills.
Analytical/problem-solving skills.
Ability to deal effectively with the public and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with accounting, cashiering, and SAP finance system.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Advises students on loan counseling requirements for first-time borrowers.
Makes recommendations for possible financial aid resources.
Approves and processes emergency Cash Advances for students with pending financial aid.
Provides students with the forms requested by financial aid-including forms related to verification, special circumstances, loan adjustments, etc.
Collection of Past Due Accounts.
Follows department guidelines to actively collect past due accounts through phone, email, mail, and in person contact.
CMU Police Department
Issues temporary parking permits to vendors, temporary employees, and guests.
Processes payments for parking tickets.
Additional Responsibilities
Responds to SASUB and OSFA email correspondence.
Updates/Completes the Combined Office Calendar (Registrars, SASUB, OSFA).
Updates/Completes Money Matters publication each year.
Updates/Completes message boards for the Residence Halls.
Trains RHDs, RAs, MAs on the services the SSC provides.
Ensures the security of the SSC.
Activates/deactivates security systems upon arrival and departure.
Checks that all windows are closed/locked before closing and that blinds are open.
Performs other duties/special projects as assigned by home offices to all SSAs.
Ensures all forms and documents are updated and available for students.
Meets with students and staff promoting financial wellness.
Performs other duties as necessary.
