The Business Manager serves as a team member of the Student Life (SL) Central Support Business Office. This position provides direct fiscal and administrative support, which is vital for effective business operations within assigned departments within the Office of Student Life, including following Student Life units: Senior Vice President and Associate Vice Presidents offices, Technology Services, BuckID, Student Health Insurance, Strategic Communications & Media, Marketing, Development, Partner Engagement & Innovation, Human Resources, Financial Management, and other affiliated organizations.
The Business Manager completes accounting processes and auditing functions, performs routine and ad-hoc trend analysis, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and oversees general ledger and payroll accounting and maintenance activities. This role also reviews and authorizes purchases and all routine operational transactions, reviews transaction and travel documents to ensure proper procedures are followed and all transactions are policy compliant, and trains and advises staff on university and Student Life purchasing procedures including the navigation and use of Workday. This position also manages the asset management process for all of Student Life, which includes working closely with over 30 equipment custodians for over 1200 assets, works with Accounts Payable and vendors to resolve payment issues, and serves as departmental contact for service/supply contracts.
Serving as a key business partner, this role is responsible for supporting a year-round budgeting process including identification of resource efficiencies and priorities and identifying and implementing opportunities for business process improvements within supported departments. To achieve operational excellence, the Business Manager also works with leadership of assigned departments on the development and monitoring of key performance metrics in all financial operations. Works with assigned units at all levels, from strategic planning to day-to-day operations and measures results, and collaborates with internal partners and university purchasing office for bid process. Supports and mentors student staff and participates in Student Life and University committees as appointed. May be required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field
At least 4 years relevant experience required
Knowledge of accounting principles and applications
Experience with organizational budgets, accounting systems, reporting and analysis
Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite Products, especially Excel

Masters in Business Administration.
4-8 years relevant experience
Business management experience
Prior work experience in Higher Education and/or Student Affairs
