The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an International Student and Scholar Assistant Advisor or Advisor! As a member of the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team, this position is responsible for direct advising of, and preparing documents for, international students and scholars in regards to U.S. immigration matters and providing advice, assistance and/or resources regarding academic, housing, financial, cultural adjustment, social, career, research, and other related matters. In summary, this position is expected to prepare visa applications for, as well as engage in, direct advising of international students and scholars. The level of supervision and oversight provided will depend upon the classification level of the position. ISSS facilitates the entry, success, and retention of approximately 2200 international students and 800 international scholars. Our team advocates on behalf of international students and scholars (both within the university and to U.S. federal agencies) to ensure that they are afforded every opportunity to complete their educational, research, and/or professional objectives. We provide educational, social, and cultural programs that foster the integration and success of the international population on campus and in the local community. To be a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Office (ARO), per federal regulations, incumbent must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident.
International Student & Scholar AssistantAdvisor:
Experience as an international student and/or scholar advisor (or similar position) at an institution of higher education or as an immigration paralegal or legal assistant. The experience must include: assisting international students and/or scholars with at least one (1) of the three (3) following types of visas: F-1, J-1, and H-1B or mentoring and/or event planning for international students and/or scholars in a professional environment.
Applicants with similar experience as a student employee in an International Student & Scholar Services office (or similar office) will be considered.
International Student & Scholar Advisor
One (1) year of work experience as an international student and scholar advisor (or similar position) as a DSO and/or ARO at an institution of higher education or as an immigration paralegal or legal assistant. The experience must demonstrate the ability to use knowledge of the regulations and good judgement to independently advise international students and scholars with at least one (1) of the three (3) following types of visas: F-1, J-1, and H-1B.
