About the Opportunity

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. It is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

JOB SUMMARY

The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. This role serves as a permanent staff member, supporting one of our Pathway Programs: The N.U.in Program.

The N.U.in Program is a unique opportunity for first-year students accepted for Spring Admission to Northeastern University. Students study at one of our N.U.in partner institutions during the Fall semester and enter Northeastern University in the Spring. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while N.U.in and Student Life staff provide on-site leadership and support services.

With supervision from Associate or Assistant Directors for International Pathway Programs, the Program Supervisor role is a year-round, full-time, benefits-eligible position that requires the person in this role to live on-site with students for at least 3-4 months at one or more N.U.in locations globally.

N.U.in: During the fall semester, this individual will live on-site and oversee the operations for an N.U.in Program location. During spring and summer semesters, this individual will be primarily based at Northeastern's campus in Boston, MA, with the potential of traveling to GEO abroad or domestic locations as needs dictate. The Program Supervisor will work with Student Life and other campus partners on special projects and specific goals to ensure student and programmatic success.

Individuals will work non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends, supporting student programming, and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students and staff. They will also serve on an on-call rotation while on location.

Possible location placements for the fall 2023: Thessaloniki, Greece; Glasgow, Scotland; Dublin, Ireland; Berlin, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; others TBD.

Responsibilities during the spring and summer semesters could include:

  • Plan and develop programs that address students' personal, intellectual, and cross-cultural growth
  • Plan and develop educational and community engagement activities.
  • Support enrollment management admission activities by presenting to prospective students and families
  • Collaborate with Student Life and other strategic university partners to plan and facilitate site staff onboarding and training
  • Assist with logistical planning of site staff training and student pre-departure orientation for various mobility programs
  • Serve on various GEO working groups and committees to improve future on-site operations
  • Develop programming and resources to build a cohort of Alumni Ambassadors including recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing cohort building initiatives
  • Liaise with Student Life departments to provide transition and integration support for N.U.in students re/entering in the spring, including planning events and programs that connect students to each other and the university
  • Provide consultations and trainings to colleagues on matters of student mobility, transition, and Northeastern partnerships

Responsibilities during the fall semester could include:

  • Build site partner relationships and serve as global site experts
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the partner while leading, managing, and tracking quality and diversity of academic, cultural, and social programming for N.U.in students
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the on-site orientation for N.U.in students in collaboration with the partner
  • Drive global learning outcomes and initiatives on site, as well as critical first year skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, building resilience.
  • Serve as a liaison with staff and faculty from the host institution and GEO Central Staff
  • In partnership with the Student Success Managers, guide and direct Student Success Coordinators on planning and implementing global learning programming
  • Collaborate with the Academic Integration and Planning team to develop and facilitate a one-credit course supplementing the student global experience and/or host reflection activities and discussions
  • Encourage student academic success, respond to student concerns, and connect students to resources
  • Work with site-staff, Student Life, GEO, and the Global Safety Office to create a safe and secure environment
  • Participate in an on-call rotation model specific to partner institution needs
  • Work with Student Life on managing crisis situations and further develop skills to confidently triage and communicate with families and emergency contacts as situations arise
  • Ensure student programming and operational activities are effective budgetary items
  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer as needs dictate

The Program Supervisor will work collaboratively to support the safety and wellbeing of students and contribute to the development and overall success of the students and the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement, the needs of students, Pathway Programs, and Student Life.
