The Director establishes overall standards of performance, budgetary controls, and the direction of programs and services.  This includes operational and programmatic functions of Reeve Memorial Union and University Dining, leadership for approximately 15 full-time staff and over 120 student employees. Responsibilities include financial management, human resource management, and leadership of staff.  A team of dedicated staff provide day to day support for: facility management and operations, retail and business operations, promotion and marketing, and student involvement programming.

The Director serves as the primary contact for all contracted services including but not limited to dining, financial institution tenant, vending, pouring rights, other campus departments, and the community.  The Director advises the union’s governing board, the Reeve Advisory Council (RAC), and works closely with the Oshkosh Student Association (OSA).                                        

The Director demonstrates an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity – in people, projects, and communities; recognizes, understands, and appreciates the culturally different ways in which others express themselves; treats others with dignity, respect, and consideration; works to create work environments that are experienced as safe by all; is curious about and open to others’ ideas.

 Leadership, Administration and Personnel Management (30%)

  1. Provide supervision (including mentoring, coaching, training, and performance evaluation) of a team of professional academic staff and university staff. and the overall leadership and direction for professional and student staff employed by Reeve Union and University Dining.
  2. Responsible for the planning and overall direction of the programs, services, facilities, capital projects, and general operations regarding hours, custodial, etc.
  3. Serve on divisional leadership work groups and committees to support and collaborate in providing an environment that supports student success and development.
  4. Work directly with the dining contractor and oversees University Dining staff efforts to ensure quality food service is provided for campus.
  5. Infuse diversity and inclusion in services, programs, activities, and student engagement through the utilization of Inclusive Excellence principles.

     Fiscal Management (30%)

  1. Develop short and long range financial plans which maintain financial solvency yet address student development and student success.
  2. Plan and implement budget priorities related to union and dining facilities, programs, services, capital projects and operations.
  3. Ensure department managers monitor their annual operating budgets and make long term plans for the student union, dining facilities, and programs by monitoring WISER accounting and reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports.
  4. Provide direction and supervision in the preparation of annual budgets.
  5. Present the union operational budget and highlights each year to RAC, Segregated Fee Committee and any other student governance groups as needed.
  6. Present the union, dining, and TitanCard budgets to the Associate Vice Chancellor annually, and maintain communication on a regular basis for feedback and direction on the fiscal management.

   Campus Liaison and Contract Management (25%)

  1. Serve as primary liaison with a variety of software and service vendors in Reeve Union and dining facilities on campus (CBORD, StarRez, Presence, 25 Live, Get Funds, etc.)
  2. Work directly with Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Life on contract changes, amendments, and operational concerns throughout the life of contracts.
  3. Prepare the Request for Proposal (RFP’s) process in coordination with Purchasing and Procurement.
  4. Serve as primary liaison to the service contractor leasing space within the union (financial institution tenant, pouring rights, vending, etc.)
  5. Develop new retail and service operations with input and direction from RAC, students at large, and other campus staff members.

     Strategic Planning and Assessment Efforts (10%)

  1. Provide leadership and coordination of assessment efforts, including the delivery, analysis, and interpretation of the Reeve Union and Dining assessment plan.
  2. Communicate the results to various staff and students as appropriate and utilize results to make data informed decisions.
  3. Provide Reeve Union and Dining assessment reports and summaries to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Life as requested.

     Marketing and Promotion (5%)

  1. Provide leadership and oversight for the development of marketing materials pertaining to the Reeve Union and Dining services and programs.
  2. Encourage programming in facilities that will draw members of the university community to the union and dining operations, to build community and support auxiliary operations.
  3. Provide direction and feedback for the development of content on the department web site and social media as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

Attend divisional meetings as requested. Coordinate meetings with Reeve/Dining and Leadership Staff.  Keep current on trends and developments in the field of student affairs in order to enhance the Reeve Union and University Dining’s programs, services, operations and functions.  Participate in various professional development organizations related to college unions and student affairs. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Life. 

 

Required:

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years of supervisory, administration, and leadership experience
  • Proven ability to lead a team of dynamic professionals toward a common vision aligning with the UWO strategic plan and objectives
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, oral communication, and oral presentations
  • Demonstrated capacity for collaboration to create a team-oriented environment with faculty, staff, and students

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in higher ed administration, student affairs or related field
  • 7 years of supervisory, administration, and leadership experience in a higher ed setting
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competence, and achievement in working with diverse student populations
  • Experience in reviewing, interpreting, and managing multi-faceted service/vendor contracts
  • Knowledge of enterprise, point of sale, and retail systems
