The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the International Conflict Resolution (ICR) Specialization and the Kent Global Leadership Program on Conflict Resolution, the incumbent manages the day-to-day administration of the Specialization with duties ranging from student advising to program development and event coordination, financial administration, alumni engagement, data collection and analysis, and critical liaison work with the student affairs, career services, alumni affairs, and other operational divisions of the School of International and Public Affairs.

The incumbent will also manage the day-to-day administration of the Kent Program, with duties ranging from program development, event planning and coordination, and financial administration to global outreach, fundraising, and donor relationship management. As the Kent Program is in a relatively nascent stage, the Program Coordinator will play an active role in shaping the future of the program, and will have ample opportunities to suggest avenues for research, propose, research, and develop topical events during the academic year, and support the Program in forming meaningful partnerships with prominent figures in business, civil society, and government.

Responsibilities

International Conflict Resolution (ICR) Specialization

Student Advising and Support???Assesses student advising needs and advises students on specific specialization requirements, directing them to additional resources (e.g., OSA, Financial Aid, the Career Advancement Center (CAC), alumni advisors, faculty, etc.). Works with CAC and the ICR Director to facilitate communication with potential employers of ICR graduates through outreach and events.

Curriculum Development???Drawing on knowledge of the field of public policy and international affairs, assists with ICR curriculum development and faculty recruitment as needed. Duties include collecting, organizing and analyzing data helpful in developing the curriculum, including current and prospective curricular offerings, course evaluations, etc. Conducts internet research on potential adjuncts or other affiliates drawing on familiarity with the ICR field of study and major stakeholders in the same. Informs faculty and students of changes in the curriculum, and keeps Student Affairs and other SIPA offices informed of the same. Supports capstone workshops as needed. Assists faculty members in updating course materials.

Program Development and Coordination???Coordinates logistics for ICR retreats, mixers, seminars, panels, workshops, and other co-curricular activities, directing student staff in making room reservations, food arrangements, preparing materials and publicity, taking minutes, and doing the related follow-up. Manages updates and revisions of the ICR pages of the SIPA website.

Financial Administration???Coordinates an annual ICR budget of approximately $13,000. Maintains a spreadsheet of expenses to advise the Director of available funding and unmet needs, processes bills and invoices, facilitates co-sponsorship of events and internal transfers of funds to/from other academic departments and student groups, assists the Director in filing for reimbursement, and works with the SIPA Business Manager to ensure that the Finance Office???s expense summary statement and balance remaining at the end of the FY agree with ICR???s own records.

Data Administration???Prepares statistical reports for the Director on enrollment, student progress, student interest, enrollment, and feedback on ICR courses, graduate employment, alumni engagement, etc. Directs student staff on maintaining and updating back-end databases for the ICR Alumni Advisor Directory as needed. Oversees the administration, analysis, and presentation of student surveys as needed.

Alumni Relations???Works with SIPA's Career Advancement Center and Office of Alumni Relations to maintain and strengthen ties to alumni, including helping maintain current employment and contact information for alumni and organizing alumni-student-faculty events. Manages updates and revisions of the ICR Alumni Advisor Directory.

Supervision???Recruits, trains, and oversees one ICR Program Assistant (graduate student working up to 20hrs/week). Reviews and approves PA timesheets and works with the HR/Finance Office to ensure they are paid in a timely manner.

 

Kent Global Leadership Program on Conflict Resolution

Programming and Coordination - Drawing on knowledge of the field of public policy and international affairs, assists with development and facilitation of the Kent Program summer training and additional events (panels, seminars, training alumni mixers) during the AY. Duties include maintaining the Kent Program webpage on the SIPA website; booking space, catering, and audio visual support; publicizing within and outside of the SIPA community, and building a more robust and far-reaching Program presence on social media; managing attendees and/or participants, which may include visa processing and or booking travel to NYC; identifying and contacting potential high-profile guest speakers; and collaborating closely with the Program Director to develop the substance and framing of all Kent programming.

Financial Administration - Maintains a spreadsheet of expenses to advise the Director of available funding and unmet needs; processes bills and invoices; facilitates co-sponsorship of events and internal transfers of funds to/from other academic departments and student groups; assists the Director in filing for reimbursement.

Program Development and Fundraising - In coordination with the Kent Program Advisory Board and the Dean of SIPA, works closely with the Director to design and develop the scaling-up of the Kent Program. Duties include preparing fundraising materials such as concept notes; brainstorming potential avenues for new research; liaising with the SIPA Dean???s office to identify and approach high-profile partners and donors in business, government, and civil society; and, more broadly, drawing on knowledge of international conflict resolution to think creatively about the future of the field in a rapidly changing technological, economic, and geopolitical landscape.

 

Performs related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of related work experience.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational ability (including multitasking, juggling many short- and long-term projects and deadlines concurrently).
  • Must have developed budget and data management skills, including spreadsheets and/or databases. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential, with proven ability to work with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public policy and/or international affairs preferred.
  • Prior experience in higher education or nonprofit administration highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in program coordination highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the field of international security policy strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the ICR Specialization and Columbia SIPA strongly preferred.
