Job Description

Assistant Director, Education & Training Initiatives


The Assistant Director for Education and Training Initiatives, situated within the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, supports the Division of Student Affairs with a focus on diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives for students and staff (primary liaison with the Office for Institutional Diversity for staff development). The Assistant Director manages comprehensive diversity and inclusion programs designed to educate and support students, and assists the Division of Student Affairs with tracking, aggregating and reporting of related data. The Assistant Director also supports compliance responsibilities within the division, including tracking, summarizing and reporting on data related to Bias, Title IX, as well as related to mandatory student programs. This position will collect, analyze and share this information on a regular basis with internal and external partners across campus.

In addition, the Assistant Director will collaborate with the Student Affairs Directors on the coordination and implementation of initiatives, education, programs and practices that support institutional strategies to foster diversity, inclusion and belonging and specifically will collaborate with the Thea Bowman Intercultural Center, Women's Center, Dean of Students Office as well as others across the College. In addition, this role will support training/education initiatives pertaining to diversity and inclusion for staff and student workers within the Division of Student Affairs (including office workers, Resident Assistants, peer facilitators, etc). This position will work in coordination with the Office of Student Involvement and Thea Bowman Intercultural Center to provide support for historically marginalized populations and other populations as needs are demonstrated. The Assistant Director will coordinate facilitation of diversity and inclusion training/workshops during Weeks of Welcome programming.

The Assistant Director will also provide operational support to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs as needed, and participate in division and University-wide initiatives, programs and committees as appropriate. The Assistant Director will serve as the liaison with the Office of Institutional Diversity and act as advisor to the Eagle Bridge Program.

The work of this individual supports organizational decision-making through the dissemination of research and data insights and supporting the strategic priorities of the Division of Student Affairs.

In order to create a more inclusive community within the Division of Student Affairs, each staff member is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations and creating inclusive and equitable communities;
  • Demonstrate the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills required to equitably engage and communicate with people from different local and global cultures;
  • Organizational, administrative and analytical capacities are necessary to provide inclusive customer service in person, by computer, and by phone with diverse populations;
  • Setup mechanisms to collect data in support of Student Affairs and University assessment initiatives;
  • Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment are crucial;
  • Computer proficient - skills in developing and managing spreadsheets, and manipulating and reporting data required;
  • In addition, qualified candidates must have the ability to learn new programs quickly;
  • Advanced skills in creating visually appealing presentations using PowerPoint or other presentation platform;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and ability to engage in crucial conversations;
  • Experience with digital communication tools (e.g. campaign monitor, social media, Canva); and
  • Ability to coordinate and interact with all levels of staff.

Each staff member is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $59,550 to $74,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory, preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in student development and/or Diversity and Inclusion related programming and education
  • 2 years experience developing and facilitating trainings and programs on diversity and inclusion preferred
  • Experience working in higher education preferred
  • Project management experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work in a face paced environment while managing multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Qualified candidates must have experience working with diversity and inclusion initiatives, a commitment to creating an inclusive culture.
