Job Description:
Student Accessibility Services is currently seeking applicants for an Assistant Director to join their team. This position will be hired as a Student Services Specialist III.
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) coordinates reasonable accommodations for ISU students with documented disabilities and promotes access and student success at the University. Â
The Assistant Director assists the Director in coordinating daily operations, works collaboratively on assessment efforts to improve the unit, and maintains accurate records related to eligibility and provision of services. This position has specific supervisory responsibility for staff who carry out direct accommodation delivery on behalf of the office. The Assistant Director will exercise analytical, problem-solving, conflict management, and organizational skills to address accessibility goals and challenges.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervision and Administrative
Supervises and supports staff (Exam Accommodations Coordinator and Support Services Coordinator) in direct accommodation delivery for exams, service provider coordination, alternative media, and assistive technology
Establishes and leads goals, daily operations, and workflow for direct accommodation delivery through SAS, such as service provider coordination (captioning, ASL interpreting), alternative media, the Exam Accommodation Center (EAC), and assistive technology
Assists with the elevation of faculty concerns regarding accommodation delivery
Works collaboratively with Director on accommodations budget and vendor procurement for delivery of servicesÂ
Provides backup to EAC and Support Services staff as needed for absences, leaves, or high-demand service periods
Serves as designee for the office when director is not available
Support and Services Coordination
Meet with students to review eligibility status and coordinate accommodations to promote and enhance student access, success, and compliance with applicable laws/policies and complete âwelcome meetingsâÂ
Communicate with and assist professors/instructors related to their role in the delivery of recommended reasonable accommodations and access, requiring professional knowledge for complex inquires
Coordinates and ensures various services/processes are in place to deliver reasonable accommodations with various campus partners such as Department of Residence, Dining, Facilities Planning and Management, and The Office of the Registrar
Provides guidance and directly facilitates the âinteractive processâ between students and campus partners when accommodation issues are elevated (e.g. disputes, complexity, etc.)
Utilize and troubleshoot the SAS information management software (Accommodate)Â Â
Assessment and Data
Engages with SAS (main) and EAC student workers to assess Iowa Stateâs CRCs (Career Readiness Competencies)
Surveys students (digital survey, interview, focus groups) for feedback and assists Director in collecting data for improving services
Analyze assessment results each semester and assist the Director in annual reporting to the DSO and Board of RegentsÂ
Outreach
Maintains accurate and up-to-date information and resources on the Student Accessibility Services website and Accommodate communications
Develops and updates faculty, staff, and student educational materials for accommodation implementation for legal compliance and best practices
Consult with partners across the Divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to share expertise in accessibility, disability, and inclusive practices
