The A.S. Basic Needs Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the A.S. Food Pantry, located in the Aztec Student Union, ensuring equitable access for students to nutritious food resources. This position is also responsible for maintaining, developing, and supporting food insecurity educational and social programs and initiatives within A.S., including Aztecs Rock Hunger and A.S. No Waste. Additionally, this position collaborates with other campus partners to support issues related to food insecurity, sustainability, basic needs, and more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
Coordinates and oversees the daily operations and activities of the A.S. basic needs programs; implements procedures for the day-to-day operations of assigned program areas
Coordinates and oversees the A.S. Food Pantry operations in its entirety including, but not limited to: coordinating part-time staffing; providing work guidance to volunteers and student staff; ordering, shopping, receiving, and stocking food items; maintaining food quality controls
Collaborates and coordinates with A.S. Student Support Commission (SSC), A.S. Campus Life Council (CLC), Aztecs Rock Hunger leadership team, and other A.S. student leaders in the development of A.S. resources, programs, events, and services and initiatives to support students' basic needs including A.S. No Waste and supporting Aztecs Rock Hunger
Acts as main point of contact for food shopping and purchasing with the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank Nonprofit Food Centers, submits weekly online orders for shopping appointments, schedules deliveries and maintains accurate list of authorized shoppers
In collaboration with A.S. Student Support Commission, plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts orientations, workshops, meetings, and other activities related to the basic needs program area; plans joint events and participates in planning and implementation meetings with other campus departments and programs
Serves as a representative on various basic needs-related committees and other projects associated with basic needs
Attends CSU system-wide meetings and workshops; stays abreast of new trends and maintains a working knowledge of information related to basic needs
Trains and provides work guidance to part-time A.S. Food Pantry Leads and volunteers
Minimum Requirements
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education:
Four year degree from an accredited college or university preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
One year minimum experience working in a social service or community service capacity or a student services-oriented role required
One year minimum experience providing work direction and supervision to part-time staff in a high-volume customer-service environment required
Experience supervising and working directly with college students preferred
Demonstrated ability to use and learn to use various computer software programs and processes including: email programs, word processing programs, internet programs, digital photo programs, and spreadsheet programs preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
A valid California Drivers' License and proof of automobile insurance (for occasional business-related driving) required

Ability to operate a computer with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn and utilize new software programs

Well organized, ability to effectively multi-task, ability to prioritize work, problem solve, make decisions and meet scheduled deadlines under pressure
Must have strong English language skills and the ability to read, write and verbally communicate at a level appropriate to the duties of the position

COMPENSATION
Starting Range: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a regular, full-time position. Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours and days, including evenings and holidays as dictated by A.S. Food Pantry operation schedule.

While working outdoors, the work environment may involve exposure to various elements including but not limited to: sun, heat/cold, dust, pollens and other environmental risks.
This position calls for weekly business-related driving to the San Diego Food Bank. A valid California Drivers' License is required.

Works closely with the Aztec Student Union Assistant Director of Operations
Provides daily work direction and on-site supervision to student volunteers (Approximately 30)
Works closely with A.S. Government Affairs, A.S. Graphics and A.S. Executive Officers
Works with various A.S. Boards and Committees as assigned
Outside the Organization:
Works closely in collaboration with the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT)
Communicates with various University departments and personnel (i.e. Well-Being & Health Promotion, Counseling & Psychological Services, Residential Education Office/Residence Life, and the Center for Student Orgs and Activities)
Communicates and obtains approvals for program-related activities and functions through departments such as SDSU Environment Health & Safety, University Police Department, SDSU Facilities Services, California State Fire Marshal, SDSU Business & Financial Affairs, SDSU Student Affairs
