CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - 7,159 per month

Student Services Professional IV

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,732 - 8,176 per month

ABOUT THE POSITION(S)
The purpose of this recruitment is to produce a pool of qualified applicants to call upon for temporary emergency Student Services Professional appointments which range from a duration of several days to a maximum of 120 days. A temporary emergency appointment is generally utilized to replace a permanent employee on leave of absence or to provide clerical support during a recruitment process subsequent to an employee's resignation. Temporary emergency appointments will be made in the appropriate job classification, depending upon the needs of the hiring department. You may be considered for available positions in any of these classifications depending on your qualifications. Temporary emergency positions are not eligible for benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS
SSP IA: Bachelors degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field (specialized and relevant experience may substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis); working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information, techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate commendations; ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SSP IB: Bachelors degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field (specialized and relevant experience may substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis) AND one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level (Equivalent amounts of graduate level; job-related education may be substituted for the required experience). Working knowledge of the methods/problems of organization and program management, research/interviewing techniques, and principles of individual/group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules/regulations, gather/analyze data and reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, present clear and concise information orally and in written reports, acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

SSP II: Bachelors degree or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field AND two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field. (A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis).General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research and interview techniques; ability to interpret and apply program rules/regulations, use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization is required.

SSP III: Bachelors degree or equivalent in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution AND three years of professional student services work field (A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience OR a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in the relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience). Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization is required. Finalists will be required to submit verification of upper division coursework (i.e., transcripts).

SSP IV: Bachelors degree or equivalent in a related field PLUS upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution AND four years of professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems (a master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience OR a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in the relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience). General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management, advanced statistical and research methods; ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise and organize programs and activities; ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff and the public; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of the campus procedures and activities and the overall organization is required. Finalists will be required to submit verification of upper division coursework (i.e., transcripts).
