The Placement Exchange Job Board

The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking applicants for the position of Student Services Coordiantor.  The Student Services Coordinator works in collaboration with the Upward Bound (UB) staff to achieve standardized program goals and objectives in two, federally funded educational opportunity programs (TRIO): Foothills Upward Bound and River Valley Upward Bound. The Student Services Coordinator provides day-to-day oversight and coordination of programming, record keeping, direct services in both programs and maintains a caseload in the River Valley program serving schools in Oxford County. The goals of UMF UB are to provide support for high school students who are from low-income families and/or would be the first in their families to graduate from college.

Essential Duties

• Provides follow-up services and implements Individualized Academic Plans for twenty-five to thirty (25-30) students in target high schools including academic advising and support, personal counseling, family contact and advocacy at the target schools.
• Records and updates data for twenty-five to thirty (25-30) participants including contacts, grades, test scores, and academic course schedules.
• Assists in the supervision of assigned Target School Advocates including communication and coordination of responsibilities.
• Coordinates the planning, implementation, and supervision of college trips, cultural activities, reunions, and other activities.
• Provides budget oversight for travel and events:
  • Facilitates payments to bus companies, transportation providers, vendors, etc.
• Assists in the planning and implementation of the student recruitment process each year.
• Coordinates the career development component of the summer program, including but not limited to:
  • Recruits and coordinates career experience worksites for students.
  • Provides oversight of budget and coordinates and implements stipend disbursement to students in collaboration with the Assistant Director and Administrative Specialist.
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of career development summer staff.
• Develops and implements the summer weekend camping program including the supervision of the summer Outdoor Recreation Coordinator.
• Transport students in university vans on both extended day trips and overnight trips.
• Assists in reporting requirements for the federal grant, including submission of the Annual Performance Report.

Required

• Bachelor's Degree in education or related field

• Experience working with high school students in an education setting

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work individually without direct supervision

• Valid State of Maine Driver's License (in good standing, based on UMS standards)

• Varied hours required, including early morning, evening, weekend, and holidays

Preferred

• Master’s Degree in education or related field
• Knowledge of the challenges facing first-generation college students
• Knowledge of the college and financial aid application process
• Strong leadership and organization skills
• Demonstrated commitment to equity in education
