Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Associate Vice President for Assessment and Accreditation for the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (OEVPAA). This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Planning and Administration (VPAPA) and provides leadership, coordination, oversight, and support as requested in the management of the university's academic units, programs, personnel, partnerships, and initiatives.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works closely with the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs (EVPAA) and VPAPA on universitywide educational policy issues, accreditation actions, external partnerships, and continuous improvement, and represents the EVPAA with both internal and external constituents.
The Associate Vice President provides direct advice, guidance, and policy development on university-level academic matters, which have substantial implications for the university's operations and priorities.
In addition, the Associate Vice President works closely with university vice presidents, provosts, deans, directors, and other faculty, staff and other administrators on multiple academic issues and initiatives.
The position carries out these responsibilities by coordinating the work of large numbers of faculty, staff and other administrators, generally organized into specific committees (standing or special), across the university.
Serves as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), serving as primary point of contact between MSCHE staff and the institution, and as a resource for the institution on accreditation processes and related matters. Directs MSCHE periodic and interim reviews.
Conducts annual review of continuous improvement processes and manages repository of reviews for accreditation purposes.
Provides oversight to academic program review; decanal and chancellor evaluations; and certificate and institute review.
Partners with the Office of Teaching and Assessment Research (OTEAR) regarding assessment of student learning outcomes.
Develops/revises university policies related to academic matters in conjunction with other university offices (e.g., University Ethics and Compliance, Institutional Research and Decision Support, Academic Planning, Office of General Counsel (OGC), University Equity and Inclusion, Office of Information Technology, Offices of Student Affairs, Division of Continuing Studies, Rutgers University Senate).
Exercises discretion and independent judgment in interpreting the extent to which specific academic programs, proposals, or agreements follow university policy and procedure, and state and federal regulations.
Determines whether or not policies represent sound academic principles and generally accepted best practices within the context of Rutgers' peer institutions of higher education. In some cases, the position will make a final determination based on these judgments, and in other cases, will make a recommendation to the VPAPA.
Works closely with Rutgers Global and OGC in developing procedures for review and approval of international agreements of various types.
Conducts review for all international and domestic academic agreements.
Provides briefing materials, background reports, summary statistics, and other reports for president, EVPAA, VPAPA, governing boards, and the University Senate.
Serves as EVPAA representative on various committees.
In concert with other team members and University personnel, supports the EVPAA and VPAPA in special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Doctorate degree
A minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in higher education academic administration.
