Staff Psychologist-BIPOC/International Students Focus

Student Counseling Services (SCS) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus is seeking a Doctoral level psychologist to provide individual and group counseling with an emphasis on working with BIPOC/International students, clinical supervision to trainees, and outreach and programming to the University community.
We seek candidates with evidence of training, expertise, commitment, and sustained engagement in working with BIPOC/International Students towards their personal development, well-being, and academic success, through culturally responsive individual, group and community interventions. Candidates must also demonstrate commitment to supporting the development and growth of clinicians-in-training in the area of culturally responsive interventions.

The staff psychologist will have strong, generalist clinical skills and experience in therapy, consultation and outreach to provide culturally responsive care to undergraduate and graduate student populations, and will collaborate with campus and community partners to engage in meaningful psycho-educational outreach to promote student success and well-being. Service provision includes face-to-face and tele-mental health services to students.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal counseling services via time-limited individual and group modalities (e.g., interpersonal, affinity, support, or psychoeducation, etc.) that supports emotional, academic, and career development of BIPOC/International students
  • Provide clinical supervision to graduate students in mental health programs, including facilitating didactic seminars in areas of expertise
  • Provide intake and crisis intervention services
  • Provide assessment and diagnostic services related to developing effective treatment plans and making appropriate referrals of student clients
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison in the referral of students to on- and off-campus resources for BIPOC/International student populations (for ex. International Student Scholar Services, Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence, TRIO, etc)
  • Provide consultation services for students, faculty, parents and staff related to psychological issues
  • Conduct and collaborate on psycho-educational workshops and preventive outreach for students, faculty and staff, particularly focused on the mental health needs of BIPOC/International Student populations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is expected to be $85,000–95,000 depending upon qualifications.

This position can accommodate a candidate that requires a H1-B visa or permanent residency to be employed in the United States.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program. 
  • Independent licensure as a psychologist in Minnesota or able to obtain independent Minnesota license within 12 months of employment
  • Minimum two years experience (this could include practicum/internship experiences) providing clinical services in mental health settings.
  • Evidence of sustained pursuit of knowledge and experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • -Demonstrated experience providing culturally-informed clinical services to diverse and traditionally under-served student groups (e.g. BIPOC/Multicultural, LGBTQIA+, international students, first generation students).
  • Interest in engaging fully in the typical work of a college counseling center, including short-term counseling, group counseling, crisis work, outreach, consultation, and training.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing clinical supervision to graduate clinicians-in-training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing/delivering programming supporting BIPOC/International Student populations
  • Experience in providing bilingual/multilingual therapy and clinical supervision
  • General understanding of international student experiences such as common immigration regulations and unique barriers and resources
  • General understanding of domestic BIPOC student experiences including providing clinical support around historical trauma and healing, navigating predominantly white institutions and cultural healing and community practices
  • Experience providing clinical services in a college mental health setting
  • Experience and interest in providing group counseling, including affinity groups
  • Completion of APA accredited internship in a college counseling center
  • Training and experience in therapeutic psychological assessment
  • Experience in vocational, career, or academic counseling experience
  • Two or more years of experience providing clinical supervision to graduate clinicians-in-training
  • Program coordination or comparable administrative experience
