The Assistant Director for Parent & Family Relations utilizes an in-depth knowledge of community engagement programming to develop and oversee projects related to parent and family engagement at Ohio State, including but not limited to Parent and Family Weekend, Sibs, Kids and Family Day, Legacy Celebration, Employee Family reception, and other Student Life and university-wide programs. This role will partner closely with the Director of Parent and Family Relations to administer and execute programming goals and procedures, oversee a team of staff and students, and by serving as a key point of contact for the parent and family community, volunteers, and campus partners. Partners with the director to ensure successful office engagement with orientation and contributes to the departmental strategic plan. Managerial responsibilities include setting annual individual and team-based goals, providing employees with regular ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities, and overseeing the hiring, training and development of all students and staff. Responds to family phones calls and emails, addressing both crisis and general concerns, by answering questions and resolving problems to a remedy. Represents Parent and Family Relations and engagement with families on university-wide committees and work groups. Engages families on university initiatives impacting students and families while gaining feedback to improve the overall experience for the university community. Partners with Director to support Family Round Table, Ohio States parent and family volunteer board who, meeting monthly, provide feedback to the university on a wide range of topical issues while also serving as a sounding board for university initiatives and concerns, coordinate volunteer efforts from the round table for university programs and events. Independently determines method for completion of new projects. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.

45% Programming Oversight and Community Engagement
Develops and oversees, programs, projects, and events that engage students and their families in the Buckeye experience to support student success, including but not limited to Parent and Family Weekend, Sibs, Kids and Family Day, Legacy Celebration, Employee Family reception, and other Student Life and university-wide programs. Develops and implements departmental efforts in targeting resources and events for marginalized and at-risk student and their families to promote engagement with resources for success at Ohio State. Cultivates relationships and serves as office liaison with campus and community partners in hosting programs and events for families. Participates in university advancement and fundraising efforts focused on families by serving as a resource at programs and events. Assists with coordination of parent and family activities, and partners with Director to coordinate and support Parent and Family Round Table, Ohio States volunteer family board. Engages families on university initiatives impacting students and families while gaining feedback to improve the overall experience for the university community. Participates in application and selection process for members in partnership with the director and associate dean of students. Coordinates responses to family concerns received via emails and phone correspondences as well as referrals of families from across the institution.
45% Leading and Developing Team of Staff and Students
Leads and supervises Parent and Family Relations Specialist and departmental student staff and provides employees with regular ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities. Oversees the hiring, development, performance management, coaching, coordination of staff assignments/duties. Explains policies, standards and processes to team. Completes necessary coaching and professional development conversations and documentation for all student employees in alignment with SEE program.
10% Other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills/Experience:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 years experience in community engagement programming and administration. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience leading or mentoring team of staff and/or student employees.
Preferred: 4-8 years experience in community engagement programming and administration. Experience supervising professional and student staff. Experience working in higher education and student affairs.
