Job Description:

• Responsible for overall administration of Student Conduct and Resolution, promoting community standards, safety, and student learning through educational outreach and processes that aid in the resolution of violations of institutional policies, rules, or regulations. The Assistant Dean ensures that student conduct concerns are investigated and addressed in accordance with recognized student conduct procedures, ensuring that students' rights are protected and University behavior standards are upheld. 

• This role provides leadership in implementing comprehensive and individualized response to student emergencies as well as non-clinical outreach and support to students experiencing challenges. This includes, but is not limited to, interacting with students and their families, student affairs departments, academic units, and other campus partners to coordinate University response to students' needs. 

• Directly responsible for the administration, maintenance, security and proper disclosure of confidential student files and student conduct records, ensuring compliance with records retention policies and local, state and federal regulations (Clery, FERPA, etc.,) through the use of Maxient Conduct Manager software. 

• Serve as the designated officer and investigator for student complaints of harassment/discrimination for Minnesota State 1B.1 matters and for student complaints of sexual violence for Minnesota State 1B.3 cases. 

• Provides educational outreach programs to the University campus regarding community standards, conflict resolution, the student conduct code and conduct process, student rights and responsibilities, and outreach services to support students. 

• The Assistant Dean is responsible for implementation of a comprehensive, outcomes-based assessment plan to ensure that community standards, practices and procedures, and related student support systems are community focused, learning centered, procedurally sound, and aligned with University mission and strategic goals. 

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Education, or related field AND 3 years of advanced professional experience in student conduct, civil rights investigations, or legal assistant OR Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of advanced professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Advanced knowledge using investigative techniques and trauma-informed investigative knowledge, with strong organizational and concise report writing skills.

• Strong analytical skills

• Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to barriers to equity and success in working with diverse constituencies to support an inclusive campus environment.

• Strong and effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen well.

• Ability to serve as an expert for student-related policy development, implementation, and interpretation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with alternative resolution, including conflict coaching, restorative justice, and shuttle diplomacy

• Violence Against Women/Clery Act training, specifically in the areas of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking

• Behavior intervention team training and/or experience

• Familiarity with Title IX Education Amendment 

• Familiarity with FERPA and Minnesota Data Practices Act

• Knowledge of and/or experience working with student grievance processes in a higher education environment, including maintaining protected student record information
