Department Overview

This position, housed within the School of Nursing, manages the development and daily program needs of the Wy?east nursing pathway as well as admissions and recruitment initiatives for underrepresented prospective nursing students. This position communicates and partners closely with the Northwest Native American Center of Excellence (NNACoE), health and nursing-focused Tribal organizations, and national nursing organizations such as the Native American Nurses Association, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League of Nursing, American Public Health Association and Nurse Practitioners of Oregon. Designing and tracking program activities and outcomes and directing communication across stakeholder groups including students, faculty, and administration is an essential part of this role. Pathway programs at the School of Nursing involve substantial research and are heavily evaluated. Therefore, strong operations management skills are critical, as well as a comprehension of mixed method evaluation approaches and data management.

Function/Duties of Position

Program Planning and Oversight (25%)

  • Partners with the Nursing Wy'east Operations Team (NWOT), SON faculty and staff, NNACoE staff within the Department of Family Medicine, and Tribal organizations to design, implement, and manage pathway activities.
  • Develops and oversees the implementation of pathway vision and goals, including sustaining and expanding program resources and developing new programs to support prospective SON students.
  • Develops budget and monitors fiscal management of the Nursing Wy'east Pathway Program (NWPP) and related projects.
  • Oversees workflow based on the work plan.
  • Contributes to project reports.
  • Oversees updates for NWPP stakeholder groups.
  • Oversees all NWPP reports and coordinates program meetings and retreats.

Communications Management (25%)

  • Develops and implements the NWPP communications plan(s) to ensure timely and effective communication of project progress to all appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees the NWPP activities calendar, ensuring synergy between activities and projects.
  • Develops and maintain the NWPP website.
  • Oversees implementation of social media activities across all channels, making suggestions for new channels as appropriate.
  • Oversees development of digital media content, identifying vendors internally and externally as needed to achieve goals.
  • Works with NWPP partners to ensure smooth and effective communication.
  • Supports and participates in the drafting of manuscripts, presentations, posters, newsletter contributions, grant progress reports, blog posts, social media, and other critical cross-project communication.
  • Maintains communication and partnership with NNACoE staff.

Public Relations Management (15%)

  • Partners with the SON Operations Team to maintain partner relationships (academic, community, tribal, NPO, NGO, etc.) to ensure effective communication of project goals and timelines.
  • Directs visits by partners and implements key actions and outcomes from partner meetings and follow-up items as needed.
  • Partners with others within the SON, across OHSU, and external stakeholders to effectively advocate for and inform about projects.
  • Serves as a liaison to SON administrative staff and provides other resources for project teams.

Research and Evaluation (15%)

  • Participates in the development and oversees the implementation of the NWPP vision, goals, and objectives in partnership with the Nursing Wy'east Operations Team, including sustaining and expanding programs, initiating new projects and programs, and developing new infrastructure.
  • Identifies and develops new training opportunities for AI/AN learners and supports faculty development at the SON in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Diversity.
  • Supports and participates in evaluation and research as a member of the NWPP Evaluation Team.
  • Directs outreach to current and potential partners and works together on grant proposal submissions.

Learner/Study Participant Management (10%)

  • Participates in and/or supports outreach, recruitment, and retention of AI/AN learners, faculty, and staff.
  • Provides intensive advising, mentorship, and regular communication with NWPP learners.
  • Partners with the Associate Dean, Assistant Director of Admissions, and the staff in the Office of Student Recruitment and Admissions in the SON in the SON to ensure increased recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
  • Connects NWPP learners with NWPP, NNACoE, and OHSU resources, services, and activities.
  • Collects and tracks participant data and works with the team to analyze data.

Team Management and Logistics Support (5%)

  • May have direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Manages travel, bibliography, evaluation activities, research compliance, etc. for NWPP team members.
  • Directs logistics for team meetings and maintains notes/minutes.
  • Directs the development of NWPP operations procedures and manuals.
  • Reports project status and escalates for resolution of issues to Program Director (supervisor) and NWOT.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master's in a relevant field, AND
  • 3 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Equivalent combination of a Bachelor's in a relevant field in conjunction with training and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience coordinating or managing research.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, work independently, use good judgment, and monitor the completion of project tasks.
  • Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with internal partners and move projects forward.
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, frameworks, methods, and techniques of program evaluation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to form relationships with stakeholders and community partners.

Job-Related Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (Competencies)

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, judgment, and discretion.
  • Ability to understand and navigate through academic culture and environment and manage expectations.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.
  • Must have excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while resolving problems.
  • Must be proficient with computers running MAC or Windows and PC applications (e.g. MS Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • MPH, MSW, M.Ed, MBA, MSHA, or another relevant graduate degree.

Experience

  • History of previous and current relationships and partnerships with Tribal organizations.

Job-Related Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (Competencies)

  • Proficient with project management tracking tools such as Smartsheet.

  • This may include travel to stakeholder sites, events, and courses during non-standard business hours.

Physical Demands & Equipment Usage

  • Ability to work with a computer for long periods of time. This function can be very repetitive.
