This position exists to provide night and weekend professional staff coverage for the Student Recreation Center, Rec Sports/Athletics facilities, and events. This position will manage emergencies and will support the administration of competitions and events in Rec Sports\Athletics facilities. Rec Sports hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year including but not limited to: club sports competitions, varsity athletic competitions, career fair events, admissions events, PA classes, external facility rentals, summer camps, convocation, commencement ceremonies etc. These activities take place seven days a week at all hours of the day. This position will collaborate with other Rec Sports staff to manage programs, facilities, risk management and events.
This position will supervise the Student Rec. Center front desk staff and provide professional development for the Rec. Sports department.
This position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold Rec Sports/Athletics/Student Life organizational values, as well as campus-wide initiatives.
A successful candidate will be able to work a flexible schedule. The schedule could vary depending on the time of year, competitions, events or lack thereof. Generally, this position will operate on a Wednesday- Sunday afternoon/evening work schedule.
Responsibilities: Oversee night and weekend operations for Rec Sports\Athletics facilities and events. This will include scheduling and the supervision of student staff. An emphasis will be placed on safety, customer service, relationship building, inclusiveness, and collaboration with other departments. Serve as the onsite administrator for events. These responsibilities include scheduling, planning, set up, implementation of the actual special event\competition, crowd management, tear down, and supervision of event staff. Provide service to patrons with an emphasis on customer service and event risk management.
Manage the Student Rec. Center front desk and FitLab staff. Responsibilities will include recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training and development, evaluating, scheduling and discipline. This position will manage student contracts, payroll and budget for said student staff. Responsible for making sure student staff members are current in appropriate certifications and trainings (CPR\First Aid, internal trainings, etc.).
Provide student learning and development opportunities to Rec Sports student staff. Provide students with meaningful beyond the classroom signature experiences with an emphasis on transferable life skills by creating and implementing a professional development program for said staff. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to meeting with students routinely to conduct evaluations and to performing staff performance audits.
Promote and market department programs, services and facilities. Collaborate with other members of Rec. Sports and the campus community to support numerous programs and services. These include but are not limited to pool water testing, locker rentals, towel service, climbing wall equipment, membership sales, Physical Activity classes, facility set up and tear down as well as working alongside the Mines facility and maintenance staffs etc.

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Event Management, Student Development, or a related field
Experience managing and coordinating large scale special events
Experience managing and supervising employees
Professional experience working on a college campus in Student Affairs/Athletics
Good customer service skills and past experience dealing with the general public in a customer service setting/servant leadership philosophy
Ability to work nights, weekends, and flexible hours
Current CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Current Certified Pool Operator certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Experience fostering diversity, accessibility and an inclusive environment
Preferred Qualifications
Past experience in college athletics or student recreation
Past experience managing student employees on a college campus
Past experience developing training programs/skills sessions for employees
Active NIRSA Member
Previous experience with Sub it Up, Fusion and EMS Scheduling Software
Red Cross CPR/ First Aid/AED Instructor certified through the American Red Cross
Current Certified Pool Operator certification
Experience managing crowds. Must be willing and able to obtain Crowd Manager Certification within 3 months of hire
Understanding how to implement an Emergency Action Plan and previous experience instructing emergency scenario and risk management trainings
