POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Student Life is a full-time administrative position responsible for the development and oversight of a comprehensive Student Life department. Areas of immediate responsibility include Campus Recreation, Commuter Life, First-Year Experience, Parent & Family Engagement, Spirit & Tradition, Student Care, Student Government, and Student Involvement.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide vision and leadership in the continued development and implementation of goals, initiatives, and assessment of a holistic Student Life department that engages the entire campus community academically, spiritually, socially, and physically
Provide professional training, development, support and supervision for full-time reporting staff, including staff performance evaluations
Meet regularly with reporting staff, individually and collectively, for the purpose of staff development, discipleship, and administration of departmental operations
Provide leadership for the financial operations of all areas reporting to the position, managing Student Life budgets, grant offerings, etc.
Develop, inspire, and demonstrate student engagement in a liberal arts environment that integrates faith and learning
Develop and present reporting, assessment, and proposals of current and new department initiatives
Maintain University assessment needs for Student Life
Serve as a University representative at on- and off-campus events
Develop rapport and collaborative relationships with Academic Affairs and other university departments to better serve the HCU community
Serve/Chair on assigned university committees
Meet regularly with the Provost
Meet regularly with the Student Affairs leadership team to assist with division goals and initiatives to assess, plan, and promote campus wide engagement, student success, retention/persistence, and graduation
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Work to further the University’s mission
Must be able to completely affirm, uphold, and live within the Preamble of Houston Christian University and the Ten Pillars Core Convictions
Exhibit an active Christian faith with local church membership and involvement
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required; a Master’s degree in Higher Education or other related fields is highly preferred
Three or more years of progressive experience in higher education administration
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team
Active problem-solving, organizational, customer service skills
Be available for night and weekend events
Understanding of higher education in a Christian worldview and how to integrate faith and learning
Understand student development theory and student affairs/student life best practices
Experience working with university students including those with at-risk indicators
