Position Summary: This is a full-time staff position within the Student Life Department (under the Student Affairs division) that is responsible for helping foster a culture of student involvement and engagement through discipleship and community building specifically with residential campus students.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop engagement initiatives focused on holistic wellness: discipleship and spiritual growth, academic success, physical/mental/emotional well-being, and social/community engagement
Supervise spirit and traditions including Corner Pawket, Mingo mascot, Kiza Husky dog, and spirit (yell) team
Coordinate with First Year Seminar academic leadership, Academic Success Center, and other student resources to connect students with support
Assist with planning and implementing Student Life signature events and programming including Welcome Days, Family Weekend, and Homecoming
Plan and implement first year engagement opportunities including Freshman Council
Represent Student Life at university events (speaking, tabling, and presenting)
Develop Parent & Family connections: including regular communication and the planning and implementing of Family Weekend festivities
Work in collaboration with Student Affairs leadership to assess, plan, and promote campus wide engagement, student success, retention/persistence, and graduation
Assist with maintaining Student Life social media and marketing
Participate in the life of the campus through partnering with other student affairs and university departments as position requires
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required. A Master’s degree in Higher Education or other related fields is preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team
Experience working with university students
Understand student development theory specifically in the areas of first year, commuter and transfer student needs and engagement
Commitment to the mission of Houston Christian University
Work to further the university’s vision as stated in the “Ten Core Convictions.”
Be available for night and weekend programming
Exhibit an active Christian faith
