PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY:
The goal of this role is to provide career opportunities to marginalized populations that will make a holistic impact on, not only the students, but to the surrounding communities they reside in. Under the direction of the Chicago Campus Executive Office (CEO), the Director of Workforce Development is responsible for communications and continuous improvement activities that support students.
 
Maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external partners, incumbent will demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness to identify and secure the necessary internal and external resources to ensure efficient and effective execution of all Workforce Development initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to: customized training for business and industry, nonprofit and government sectors; regional workforce development programs; professional/career certification programs; and adult education certification programs.
 
The Director of Workforce Development is responsible for designing professional education and non-traditional skill development responsive to the needs of the student body’s career goals. In partnership with our Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships, the Director of Workforce Development ensures that Dominican’s Chicago Campus is responsive to community workforce needs, centering on the development that is by this role will be key in the design and delivery of many trainings, workshops, and bringing credit and noncredit-based certificates to fruition.
Key responsibilities will include collaborating with the administration and faculty to develop joint ventures in workforce program development and supporting innovative partnerships with local businesses. Adult and Post Traditional Enrollment Coordinator, deans, faculty, and the Manager of Organizational Partnerships to ensure the completion of the university’s workforce development and alternative strategic credential priorities.

JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview
  • Work collaboratively providing oversight and the design of professional development education programs for the Chicago Campus
  • Develop a working partnership with the Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships for the following:
    • Creating new workshops, and trainings to address the educational needs of individuals and organizations, collaborating with the administration and faculty to develop joint ventures in workforce program development, and support innovative partnerships with business and industry.
    • Strategically develop and maintain a multi-year credit and non-credit course workforce training program and lifelong learning catalog aligned with institutional and regional priorities. 
    • Coordinate client-facing implementation plans, timelines and procurement of partners internal to Dominican University
  • Serve as a key liaison and thought partner to Dominican University campus deans and vice presidents for continuing professional education through the Chicago campus.
  • Working with shared governance and Deans and department chairs and externally to manage the logistics and support needed for training and course content design
  • Manage external design partner relationships
Equity Lab
  • Provide leadership and direction for our university's Workforce Development Lab focused on training and community engagement along the following dimensions:
    • Corporate Workforce Development: Professional development for students while building lasting relationships and internship opportunities
    • Tech Equity Lab: Cybersecurity clinics, where students getting academic training in cybersecurity develop hands-on experience helping local businesses, nonprofit groups
    • Health Equity Lab: Provides students guided by experienced professors, hands on experience assessing structural and social community-based equity-based issues.
    • Urban Equity Lab: Pairs faculty fellows with students for semester-long research projects with an emphasis on social entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability. Pursue funding opportunities to support the lab's mission
 
 
Data/Assessment
  • Support market analysis research on trends in workforce development needs and labor market data analysis
  • Review and evaluate training materials and programs as part of our continuous improvement quality program
  • Research educational trends and best practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
  • Master’s Degree in related field required
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in instructing, research, and service.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting programs and services
  • Knowledge and application of various instructional methodologies
  • Extensive experience in project management, program development, process improvement, employer relations, and strategic management
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Doctoral Degree in Education or related field
  • Previous experience with HSIs or minority serving institutions
  • Teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience with the implementation and management of assessment and assurance of learning processes
  • High level of proficiency with data analysis, presentation, and communication
  • Familiarity with academic management including course scheduling, academic policy implementation, and career counseling
  • Familiarity with norms and expectations for academic scholarship and publication processes within business disciplines
  • Deep commitment to support and advocate for students
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a complex organizational environment
  • Knowledge of HR policies and labor laws
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
