Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for the Director of Residence Halls and Residential Life.
The Director of Residence Halls and Residential Life is responsible for the effective operation of the residence halls and the coordination and management of all aspects of the student life program in the residence hall complex, consisting of two halls, which may house a total of 145-250 students.
This position will respond to student health, safety, and conduct concerns; supervise undergraduate resident assistants, provide a welcoming environment, and oversee the maintenance and repair of building facilities and furnishings.
The Director of Residence Halls and Residential Life reports to the Vice-President of Finance and Administration. This person will work closely with the Dean of Student Services, the Department of Campus Safety & Compliance, and other college personnel. The ability to create an environment conducive to student learning and engagement, while holding students accountable for conduct and behavior is essential to this position. This position has budget authority for $480,000.00 and supervises the following individuals:

1 FT Custodian 1
1 Head Resident (student employee)
5 Resident Assistants (student employees)
Multiple Custodial and Maintenance Helpers (student employees)

Essential Job Duties
Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:
Manage financial aspects of Residence Halls, including rate adjustments, registration, and loan notes.
Manage and monitor Residence hall budget ensuring all costs are kept within budget; collaborate with the Purchasing Office to ensure best value guidelines are followed.
Maintain occupancy records.
Evaluate and assess college housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends; coordinate marketing and recruitment efforts for on-campus housing; and confirm all rooms assignments and bills are posted in accordance with college guidelines.
Maintain information on contracts, room condition reports, key numbers, deposits, contact information, and acknowledgement of information provided to students.
Coordinate housing for special programs, for example Upward Bound for high school students, and the Japanese Agricultural Training Program (JATP).
Ensure all billings are completed on a monthly basis and follow-up on payments. Maintain accurate records of all payments made by students to the Business Office. Follow-up with any late payers or defaulters to minimize incurring bad debts. Maintain records of damage deposits and ensure refunds are processed in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and applicable laws (e.g., ADA, Fair Housing, Title IX, and employment laws), and safety, industry, and state/city/federal regulations and requirements.
Deal effectively and efficiently with student concerns. Resolve issues in accordance with college policy, making referrals to the Student Conduct Officer or the Title IX Coordinator as needed.
Provide leadership; train, mentor, and supervise staff. Develop orientation and training for Resident Assistants (RA). Schedule and attend regular RA meetings and floor meetings with residents.
Develop and coordinate enrichment activities for residents.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment and supervise crisis and risk management of after-hour emergencies within the residential facilities; coordinate security.
Develop a long-term strategic plan for marketing and facility improvement. Supervise the replacement of furniture and equipment. Manage building maintenance and repair.
Model a commitment to diversity, social equity, inclusion, and cultural competence to students, faculty, staff, and guests.
OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Follow safe work practices and policies, including, but not limited to security and safety, fire, disaster, and safe lifting.
Ensure self-compliance with college policies and procedures as well as state and federal requirements.
Collaborate with all areas of the college, as needed, to implement plans and objectives specific to the position. Ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the college’s values.
Conduct self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the college.
Ensure that additional duties, as may be required by the college, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the employer.
Two years of student services work experience which may include advising, counseling, conflict resolution, student conduct, retention, academic support, advocacy, and/or application of student development theory.
Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, as evidenced in the application materials and interview process.
Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socioeconomic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable living, working, and learning environment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling/student development, business, management, organizational communication, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Previous work experience with students to include living and learning communities, academic skill development, diversity, social justice, accessibility, wellness, career preparation, sustainability, civic engagement, and/or personal accountability.
Previous experience providing advising (academic, personal, or career), responding to student concerns/conduct, student life, and/or supporting student clubs and organizations.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
Previous experience managing facilities such as residence halls, apartments, housing units, office and retail spaces, etc.
Previous supervisory experience to include recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and retaining diverse staff.
Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.
