We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $80,900 - $108,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Associate Dean of Students serves as the primary student conduct administrator at MSU Denver as well as overseeing conflict mediation, case management, and basic needs support. As such, the Associate Dean of Students is responsible for the fair and equitable management of the student conduct process and related initiatives. The Associate Dean of Students trains conduct and appeals administrators, assigns cases, provides guidance, and oversees completion of cases and sanctions. The Associate Dean of Students has significant responsibility for ensuring the institution's compliance with several federal laws related to health and safety, including the Clery Act, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Relevant to compliance, the Associate Dean of Students is also responsible for ensuring that students receive appropriate, relevant, and effective training on prevention, policy, and institutional response related to interpersonal violence, alcohol and substance abuse, and related topics.
The Associate Dean of Students manages the student conduct database, ensures complete and accurate data entry, and generates reports. The Associate Dean of Students is responsible for the annual revisions to the Student Code of Conduct. The Associate Dean of Students oversees the management of the conflict resolution activities and the complaint policy. The Associate Dean of Students co-chairs the CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention) and assists the case managers with students who may pose a threat to the health and safety of themselves, others, or place. The position leads efforts in the areas of assessment and implementation of relevant projects.As a leader within the Division of Student Affairs, the Associate Dean of Students actively contributes to divisional and institutional strategic planning and setting of priorities, in addition to leading major initiatives and projects. Centering equity in their work and approach to leadership, the Associate Dean of Students critically contributes to equity initiatives across the division and across the institution. The Associate Dean of Students is both a high-level thinker, and a student-centered and connected doer. That is, the Associate Dean of Students will balance priorities that involve strategy, leadership, and theoretical application of knowledge along with duties that connect them directly to students, the needs students have, and the experiences that students have- or do not have- at MSU Denver daily.
Furthermore, the Associate Dean of Students is positioned to support and/or represent the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement & Wellness/Dean of Students (AVP/DOS). This representation may take the form of standing in on behalf of the AVP/DOS in internal and/or external meetings or presentations, making decisions and/or approvals in the AVP/DOS's absence, or similar activities. The Associate Dean of Students is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Dean of Students.

Duties/Responsibilities
40% - Management and facilitation of student conduct and conflict resolution processes
Manages and directs all aspects of the student conduct process. Investigates student conduct complaints; advises complainants and respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options; resolves cases informally when possible, refers cases to conflict resolution services or the formal conduct process as needed, and conducts hearings.
Leads efforts to educate the University community (students, faculty, and staff) on policies, procedures, and/or resources pertaining to student conduct/behavioral expectations at the University.
Serves as a student conduct administrator, directly responding to allegations of concerning student behavior per established processes and prioritizing the health, safety, and equitable treatment of both individuals and groups within the University community.
Trains student conduct and appeals administrators.
Supervises the Director of the Student Care Center, Assistant Director for Restorative Justice and Student Conflict Resolution, the Assistant Director for Student Accountability and Behavioral Intervention, and the Compliance and Prevention Coordinator.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Restorative Justice and Student Conflict Resolution, the Assistant Director for Student Accountability and Behavioral Intervention, and the Director of the Student Care Center regarding student cases on campus and assigns cases as appropriate.
Responds to complaints, conduct or other student behavior concerns from faculty, staff, students, parents, the community, and others.
Conducts threat assessments of students who might pose a threat of harm to self, others, and/or property.
Develops, implements, and reports on assessment methods to evaluate program effectiveness, including learning outcomes. Compiles statistical data for institutional and Clery reporting.
Responsible for the retention and confidentiality of all student conduct records. Remains current on college student conduct trends including compliance related issues such as Title IX, Clery Act and the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act.
Represents the Dean of Students Office on various university and Auraria Campus committees, in particular those related to student conduct and/or campus safety matters.
Works closely with the university's legal counsel and department of Equal Opportunity to resolve disputes and formulate policy and procedure.
Prepares and responds to inquiries related to conduct history of students and former students.
Coordinates Academic Misconduct Advisory Board to provide an avenue for faculty advice and guidance.
Collaborates with Assistant Director for Restorative Justice and Student Conflict Resolution Services and associated faculty members to plan, deliver, and evaluate Dialogues Program. Serves as a lead facilitator in Dialogues Program.
Co-facilitate Restorative Justice Coalition, engaging a broad representation of campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community members to offer guidance on restorative practices at MSU Denver
15% - Management and facilitation of Behavioral Intervention Team and processes
Co-chairs the CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention) convenes group if immediate action is warranted, facilitating meetings, preparing agendas, and documenting team input for each case.
Manage CARE Team protocols, trainings, and all communication/outreach efforts. Disseminate relevant information to CARE Team members.
Attend Campus Assessment and Response Team meetings on behalf of MSU Denver CARE Team.
Continuously research national best practices and legislative changes to stay relevant and remain in compliance.
Liaises with health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to establish and support student action plans. Respond to critical incidents on campus as needed. In coordination with the Health and/or Counseling Centers, provide post- hospitalization support to students returning from a mental/behavioral health setting and transitioning back to the University environment. Assess for immediate mental health and crisis intervention needs (i.e.: suicidality).
Conduct assessment process for CARE team. Subsequently share results with CARE Team and campus decision makers regarding progress and changes to training/protocol.
15% - Supervision of Dean of Students Office Compliance Responsibilities
Supervises the Compliance and Prevention Coordinator who is primarily responsible for carrying out the University's compliance with the Clery Act, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Work to develop and maintain useful relationships with key Auraria Police Department records personnel to facilitate an effective partnership in support of Clery Act compliance.
Ensures that the University's Annual Security Report (ASR) meets regulatory obligations is published on time, and that necessary notifications to required parties are made about the report.
Ensures that the University appropriately identifies and trains Campus Security Authorities (CSA's) annually such that they can carry out their obligations under the Clery Act.
In close collaboration with the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Phoenix Center at Auraria, and other relevant partner departments/agencies, ensure that MSU Denver students receive appropriate training on interpersonal violence such that all VAWA compliance obligations are met that the training is relevant for MSU Denver's diverse student body.
Ensures that the University is compliant with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, overseeing efforts to conduct and publish the requisite biennial review and ensuring that programmatic elements meet requirements of the Act and are relevant for MSU Denver's diverse student body.
Stays abreast of any changes to federal and/or state law impacting post- secondary students' safety, expectations pertaining to conduct, rights, and related topics. Leads discussions and/or engages in policy/procedural work to ensure alignment of MSU Denver policies/procedures/practices accordingly.
30% - General Associate Dean Responsibilities
Directly supervises the Director of the Student Care Center, ensuring alignment with University and Divisional priorities. Indirectly supports employees and mission of the Student Care Center
Actively builds authentic professional relationships within MSU Denver with diverse faculty, staff, and students to aid in the promotion of Student Engagement & Wellness (SEW) and/or Dean of Students Office initiatives and/or to identify relevant partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
Serve as a liaison with key partner departments.
Serve as a member of an on-call rotation for campus.
Actively engages with relevant community/external partners to help further establish MSU Denver's role as a community pillar and a great partner for community initiatives impacting and/or benefitting MSU Denver students. Serves as a role model among internal SEW peers for active engagement in
University, divisional and/or departmental engagement. Looks for opportunities to offer contributions and support to others in a constructive manner. Demonstrates leadership through participation and critical discourse in University and/or divisional activities.
Seeks out opportunities to learn and engage with material and topics across all SEW functional areas.
Uses a critical lens to challenge problematic norms, policies, and procedures (both formal and informal) which may perpetuate injustice.
Brings a solution-oriented approach to work and leadership. Recommends solutions and/or options to address problems.
At the request of the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement & Wellness/Dean of Students and/or the Vice President of Student Affairs, represents SEW in meetings, at events, or in other applicable settings.
Other duties as assigned, including leadership of ad hoc projects with University- wide impact.
Required Qualifications
Earned Master's degree or higher in higher education administration, college personnel, social sciences, law, psychology or related field
Experience working in compliance with FERPA and rules of confidentiality
Three years of professional work experience investigating and/or responding to student behavioral concerns in a higher education setting
Demonstrated experience promoting diversity and inclusion
At least 6 years experience directly supervising full-time professional staff

Work Hours
Monday -Friday 8 to 5 with occasional evening and weekend assignments.
