Position Information Under the general supervision of the Chair of the Music Department, the incumbent will provide live musical accompaniment in an instructional setting for Music faculty and/or students in voice or instruments. This is a staff position that will work in collaboration with the Student Life dept. for the University Highland Band to include students in voice and instruments for the University. Accompanied the choirs in rehearsals and performances. Provide instrumental and/or vocal coaching for students in a studio setting, including basic diction of foreign languages. Supervise and coach students preparing recitals. Work with faculty and production managers in departmental projects and productions. Conduct annual equipment and instrument inventories, and advise the Chair on matters of maintenance and tuning of departmental pianos. Work and collaborate with the Chair and faculty to create and achieve curricular objectives. Coordinate and manage the recruitment of University Highlander Band Members and student assistants. The University Band Director will serve as the Supervisor and lead the recruitment efforts. The University Highlander Band Director will work in collaboration with Student Affairs, and the Student Life Department to coordinate performances and needs for the Band.
Please Note: This position is approximately a 50% appointment (part-time).

Preferred Qualifications Thorough organizational skills. Incumbent must possess a BA or BFA in music, a credential from a school of music, or equivalent professional experience. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while achieving maximum results and delivering work that is considered innovative and well beyond the standard; Thorough interpersonal communication skills and skills to work well with students. Ability to work well with a diverse community; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely; Demonstrated knowledge of applicable music styles. Skills and abilities necessary for the successful completion of tasks assigned; Demonstrated ability to play percussion, piano and/or digital instrumentation as an accompanist for dance and movement activity. Ability to be prepared for accompanying classes as assigned. Thorough technical musical skills and proficiency and demonstrated expertise, including strong skills in improvising and transposing music. Ability to follow instructions from Faculty. Advanced improvisational and collaborative skills. Ability to read music
