Reporting to the Director of University Housing, the Associate Director of Residence Life is a twelve (12) month, live-out professional position. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall management of the residence life program to enhance community members’ cultural understanding, leadership skills, academic success, and social connections while fostering a community that promotes social responsibility. The Associate Director directly supervises six to nine full-time, live-in professional Residence Life Coordinators (RLC), and supervisory authority to approximately 60 student positions (i.e. Resident Assistants). The Associate Director is responsible for directing the daily activities of a variety of functions essential to the successful operation of the department’s mission as a 24/7/365 operation. With support from direct reports, the Associate Director provides training oversight for the Residence Life professional and student staff.
The Associate Director is responsible for disseminating health & safety policies, procedures, and compliance in coordination with UWM Police Department, Milwaukee Fire Department, and University Housing facilities. The Associate Director works in collaboration to support departmental initiatives with both the facilities and business operation units, participates in the administrative on-call duty rotation, and serves on the University Housing Leadership Team.

Applicants for this position must have or provide evidence of the following:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Student Development, Student Personnel, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 4 years of post-Master’s Degree experience in a higher education residential community
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout a large, multifunctional department
Previous experience supervising Residence Life professional staff (Res Hall Coordinators, Res Hall Managers, Area Coordinators, Academic Program Managers, etc.)
Previous experience creating and evaluating residence life programs for institutional student housing communities to ensure alignment with academic initiatives, unit objectives, and strategic plans
Highly qualified applicants for this position will also provide evidence of the following:
5+ of progressive work experience in University Housing or a combination of University Housing and Student Affairs
Experience leading and modeling practices that foster equity and belonging in a community of residents, student staff, and professional staff
Experience coordinating and executing emergency response protocols for professional and student staff
Demonstrated ability to maintain and strengthen partnerships with internal and external departments or agencies (e.g., student affairs units, academic affairs, police, and fire department) to support the mission of University Housing
Experience working with “students of concern” or higher-level student support/conduct cases within a residential setting
Experience utilizing institutional data to assess and respond to student needs
Demonstrated ability to be in a high visibility and available position within and around campus, requiring evening, weekend, and summers to tour communities, interact with residents, present at staff training, and represent the department at the campus committees/events
