Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the Internships & Career Services (ICS) Manager is responsible for driving internship and career-related programming. This includes the administration of established programming such as career roundtables, and piloting new programming such as skill-based workshops. The ICS Manager works closely with other public service directors at Harvard College and Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) to ensure collaborative, comprehensive, substantive, and formative career-focused programming for Harvard College undergraduates interested in pursuing summer internships and post-graduation opportunities in politics and public service.
The successful candidate will have professional work experience working with students, preferably undergraduate student populations, and have a strong desire to encourage their professional pursuits and involvement in both public service and the political process. The successful candidate must also possess:
Strong working knowledge of politics, prior experience on political campaigns, working with internship programs or career services
Ability to steward professional relationships, partnerships, and networks
Creative drive to ideate, develop, and implement new programming and pipelines
Ability to deftly change gears and contexts
Skill in developing data collection and tracking systems
Strong customer service orientation
The Institute of Politics (IOP) also offers wide-ranging opportunities for students to practice, get inspired, and gain the skills for a future in public service. Sixteen programs available to students include the Harvard Public Opinion Project, a nationwide survey project of young adults? political views; and the Women's Initiative in Leadership, created to address the interest and importance of female students at Harvard in developing leadership skills. Students are also offered wide-ranging internship and career opportunities, including 100 paid public-service summer internships around the world.
The IOP provides avenues for practical experience and encourages students to examine critically and think creatively about politics and public issues.
Position Description
The ICS Manager will:
Develop, execute, and assess internship and career-related programs, including the schedule of events, outreach, tracking, collection, and evaluation of feedback
Manage the application, selection, and orientation processes for the ICS programs (1,000+ annually)
Work with the Executive Director to identity potential speaker and partner opportunities, manage event logistics for weekly events during the academic year
Work with the Senior Director of Administration and Finance to manage finances and maintain funding records for internship opportunities and summer stipend program
Collaborate with counterparts in other Harvard centers and relevant University offices on joint funding of student financial awards and represent the Institute?s interests at meetings of these groups
Serve as subject matter expert and principal point of contact and liaison for program constituents, principal source of information on established program policies, advise students on the on-campus public service recruiting process
Participate in committees around the development of career services across the University
Maintain all program records (e.g., financial, administrative, applications, student)
Work with the Executive Director to devise and implement strategies for targeting student audiences, promote programming to the Harvard undergraduate community
Maintain database of employer partnership contacts and profiles, research and suggest new employer partnership pipeline opportunities
Work in collaboration with IOP colleagues on Institute-wide projects and other special programs as needed
This position will require working on-campus 3 days/week during the academic year, and occasional evening work. Flexible work options may be considered during the summer.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of related professional experience working on political campaigns, career services, student affairs, event management. Related internships will count toward experience requirement.

Prior experience in career services or higher education experience
Candidate should have social media experience and knowledge
Strong customer service orientation and diplomacy
Strong organizational and time management skills
The ability to work well in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with faculty, colleagues, students, guests, external vendors, and partners
Good judgment, attention to detail, excellent writing skills and comfort in a fast-paced environment
Prior experience working with database applications

Salary Range: $71,139 - $116,397 Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
