Reporting to and receiving limited supervision from the Associate Director of the Accessible Education Center (AEC), the Disability Management Specialist (DMS) works independently to provide strategies, interventions, and confidential counseling for students with disabilities. The DMS meets with students with disabilities, engages in an interactive process to assess the need for reasonable and appropriate accommodations within the learning environment and across the campus community. The Disability Management Specialist participates in Case Management meetings; makes referrals to and works in cooperation with a wide variety of SJSU academic support offices, community services, agencies, high schools and post-secondary institutions; advocates on behalf of the University; acts as a resource to the greater campus and community at large.
