Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
The librarian in this position will provide a full range of research assistance, information literacy instruction, outreach, and collection development services to students and faculty in the departments of Anthropology and Sociology, Communication, English, Political Science and Public Affairs, and other constituencies as assigned. Special aspects of the position include supporting all users' discovery of Hunter Library's rich collection of historical resources in print, microform, and digital formats, unique materials in Special Collections, and interdisciplinary resources such as retrospective newspaper collections. All ARIS librarians at Hunter Library provide interdisciplinary, high-quality research assistance and library instruction in a collegial environment and work on a flexible schedule, including work outside traditional business hours. ARIS librarians also participate-both on campus and at other instructional sites-in an active information literacy program and collaborate with colleagues in library-wide decision-making and initiatives. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for additional duties, projects, assignments, and initiatives as needed or assigned. Professional scholarship and development are expected and supported. This is a 12-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position reporting to the Head of Access, Research and Instruction Services. The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, inquisitive, creative, and fully committed to fulfilling tenure requirements in teaching/librarianship, service, and scholarship. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $63,000 - $65,000. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
Minimum Qualifications: A masters degree from an ALA-accredited program of library or information science, or an international equivalent.Experience providing research and/or reference assistance to library users.Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications: An academic or professional background in the humanities and/or social sciences.Classroom teaching experience.Experience with instructional design software and instructional media production tools such as LibGuides, Panopto, Powtoon, etc.
