Event Assistant Lead S02 - Cornell Catering
Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.
As a division of Cornell Dining, Cornell Concessions and Suites supports the students, athletes and spectators of our athletic teams. Our team of experienced professionals provide memorable food experiences for the spectators at Cornell Athletic events, as well as catering to our athletes in support of recruiting, team building, and preparing for the big game.
Under close supervision, the Event Assistant Lead, provides critical customer service in a front-facing support role. The Event Assistant Lead will assist in the processing of sales transactions and the completion of food, beverage and retail support tasks for small catering events and/or concessions. This position must be team-oriented, customer-service driven and have a desire to succeed.
Likely daily tasks include:
- Upholding good customer service standards while working directly with students and other customers
- Adhering to food standards and health codes at all times including all NYS liquor authority laws regarding the controls of alcohol at all points of sale.
- Under supervision, prepare and present a wide variety of food items for concessions and/or catered events.
- Maintaining cleanliness, stock and organize their assigned stations through the presentation of catered events.
- Processing sales transactions including cash, check, credit, and meal plan card transactions while being familiar and knowledgeable of card readers and cash register operations to validate transactions if/when necessary.
A successful candidate, must have good customer service, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to be creative and flexible at all times is imperative as schedules, shifts, locations, and daily tasks are subject to change. Position may require evening, weekend, and holiday hours. May perform other related duties as assigned. Position may be subject to seasonal lay-offs.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with some relevant food service, barista or cash handling experience required.
- Basic proficiency in English involving reading, writing, math and verbal articulation.
- Be able to lift 30 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. (minimal).
- Must be able to reach over your head. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, and conduct repetitive motion, such as chopping, stirring, and mixing. Occasional squatting and frequent bending.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional education and food service or production kitchen experience preferred however, experience in off-premise catering or concessions operations and prior experience with service and sale of alcohol products is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of proper sanitation and HACCP procedures, as well as ServSafe Certification is helpful and highly preferred.
