Job Summary: | The Program Coordinator for the Indigenous Student Center (ISC) is an integral member of the Multicultural Student Center (MSC) staff and is primarily responsible for overseeing programmatic initiatives that support Indigenous students, including daily operations of the ISC House. The Program Coordinator develops culturally relevant programs that affirm identity, build community and strengthen the capacity of Indigenous students and allies to learn, lead and thrive at UW-Madison. This includes advising the Indigenous Student Center Coalition and coordinating Native November programming. The Program Coordinator is an advocate and resource for Indigenous students by establishing and maintaining supportive and strong collaborative relationships across campus units to serve students of color, specifically but not limited to Indigenous communities. Additional duties include positive contributions to the Multicultural Student Center and Division of Student Affairs staff and coaching and mentoring of student staff. This position reports to the MSC's Assistant Director for Cultural Centers. |
Responsibilities: | Advises multicultural student organizations and student leadership and affiliates, develops and executes programming, and serves on institutional committees to support multicultural students and their allies. - 5% Provides consultation, resources, and referrals concerning multicultural affairs to various audiences
- 20% Assists organizations in developing and implementing sustainable leadership practices; and navigating established policies, procedures, and resource management strategies
- 40% Schedules logistics and secures resources for academic, cultural and social programs and events that contribute to the recruitment and retention of multicultural students and the enrichment of the institutional community
- 15% Serves as liaison to various committees regarding initiatives and best practices
- 10% Direct supervision over daily operations of the Indigenous Student Center
- 10% Responsible for hiring, supervision, and evaluation of Indigenous Student Center student staff

Tasks: | - Provide upkeep and maintenance of the Indigenous Student Center's House, including equipment and supplies.
- Successful development, promotion, execution and assessment of a suite of programs that center the experiences and intersectional identities of Indigenous students at UW-Madison.
- Collaboration within the Multicultural Student Center and its identity centers: Black Cultural Center, APIDA Student Center, and Latinx Cultural Center.

Education: | Required Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required at the start of the position. Preferred degree areas: higher education / student affairs, social justice education, American Indian/Indigenous Studies, or closely related areas. OR 5 years of experience working with Indigenous student populations in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Qualifications: | Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: - 2 years of professional experience with a bachelor's degree OR 1 year with a master's degree is required. Candidates without a degree but with 5 years or more of professional experience working in student services and programming, student activities and leadership, student organization development, residential life, multicultural community development, or education are also encouraged to apply and will be considered for this position.
- Experience working directly with Indigenous students or on Indigenous issues
- Theoretical and practical understanding of student development, multicultural identity development, intersectionality, and the complexity of social identities
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, specifically, but not limited to, Indigenous populations
- Proven record of strong program planning, coordination, and organization skills
- Strong communication skills (written, oral, and electronic)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences: - Proven experience managing large-scale events (300+ attendees)
- Successful oversight and management of facilities
- Experience supervising, training, and evaluating professional staff or interns
- Experience facilitating identity-based dialogue groups, programs, or workshops |

Salary: | Minimum $53,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The expected starting salary range for this position is $53,000 up to $58,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
