The Program Coordinator for Student Success position within Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS) helps fulfill the mission and strategic plan of the office, with a particular focus on programming in the area of student success and development. The Program Coordinator must bring knowledge in the field of multicultural student development and student leadership development as it relates to historically underrepresented student populations in higher education. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the work of the Assistant Director for Student Success in areas such as the development, coordination, and execution of various programs, specifically those with a student success focus. As a member of the MSPS team, the Program Coordinator will support office initiatives organized by other team members for the holistic development of our constituents.
The Program Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Student Success, and is a full-time 12-month position with various evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the academic year, as well as some limited evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the summer.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Student Initiatives:
Collect and analyze data in order to identify and implement areas of improvement and growth for student programming needs.
Store and secure data collected from participants when they meet with the Assistant Director for Student Success.
Work with the Assistant Director for Student Success to create opportunities for students to regularly interact with various centers, colleges, and departments.
Facilitate Student Success Support Groups:
Serve as primary facilitator for the peer mentors as they plan and execute monthly group meetings, including assisting with room reservations, placing food orders, and assisting in planning development opportunities.
Advise the peer mentors, offering guidance and support in exploring new ways to engage with faculty mentors year-round.
Provide services and resources to students, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the student success experience for every participant.
MSPS Initiatives and Programming:
Assist the office with programming in the areas of holistic student development and engagement within academic programs and other student success initiatives.
Lead various programs throughout the academic year, including but not limited to monthly mentor meetings, workshops, and training for students.
Plans departmental commencement activities and other large scale department events.
Student Development Initiatives:
Coordinate opportunities for students to apply for summer fellowships, research opportunities, and internships.
Researching and benchmarks best practices for academic and career development opportunities available to participating students, including collaboration with campus partners and research among peer institutions.
Student Affairs Collaboration:
Participate as an integral member of a large, multifaceted Diversity and Engagement team interacting daily with colleagues in the Gender Relations Center and the Office of Student Enrichment.
Regularly collaborates with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs (Student Development, Campus Ministry, Residential Life, etc.), student organizations & clubs, and other units to enhance the mission of the University.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree; preferred candidates will have a master’s degree, ideally in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
Qualifications include at least 1-6 months working with university students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Experience with large-scale programming around the area of diversity.
Ability to work collaboratively in higher education with faculty, staff, and students at all levels.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal skills including a willingness to create a challenging but welcoming environment for all people; intermediate knowledge of current trends in the Asian, African American, Latinx and Native American communities, and current events and issues impacting these populations is helpful; and strong background in race and ethnic issues with anti-racism training.
