The SEVIS Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the University?s international students remain in legal immigration status and that the University is in compliance with US government regulations related to F-1 international students, by maintaining expert knowledge to interpret and provide guidance on federal immigration regulations impacting international students.
Administration and Compliance
The SEVIS Coordinator serves as the Designated School Official (DSO) and will be responsible for ensuring the University complies with US government regulations related to F-1 international students and will maintain expert knowledge to interpret and provide guidance on federal immigration regulations impacting international students, scholars, and faculty.
·The SEVIS Coordinator, with the support of other DSOs and the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) oversees the maintenance of immigration records in the student record system, the international student database, and the Department of Homeland Security?s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
The SEVIS Coordinator is responsible for supporting and guiding the University?s international students to remain in legal immigration status and are compliant with the University?s regulations, policies, and procedures.
The SEVIS Coordinator follows and manages alerts in the SEVIS system, including regulatory changes and alerts, and shares them with our international students on time.
The SEVIS Coordinator is responsible for assisting the PDSO in preparing and filing the necessary immigration-related documents to maintain the university?s SEVIS Re-Certification status.
Student Advising and Support
The SEVIS Coordinator works with other DSOs, and the PDSO to prepare and file immigration-related documents such as I-20s, OPTs, CPTs, requests for reduced course load, change of status, medical leave and employment authorization (including due to economic hardship) for new and continuing international students.
The SEVIS Coordinator works with DSOs and the PDSO to advise new and continuing international students during scheduled advising hours or face-to-face and virtual appointments.
The SEVIS Coordinator prepares and manages pre-departure (from their home countries) and post-arrival (transition to U.S. and Baltimore) sessions for international students.
Campus Community Relations
The SEVIS Coordinator works with other units on campus such as Student Affairs, Enrollment Management Services, and other departments/offices to address issues related to new and continuing international students.
The SEVIS Coordinator serves as a liaison between the international students and various campus divisions and units.
The SEVIS Coordinator works with other staff members in DIA to support ongoing international initiatives; such as the annual International Reception, International Education Week programs, and other celebrations.
The SEVIS Coordinator works with other staff members in DIA to support cross-cultural training and workshops, and other campus programming for new and continuing international students.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of OISFS or the AVP for DIA.
