Reporting to the Dean of Advising, the Director of Accessibility Services is responsible for coordinating the delivery of accommodations and support services to students with a range of documented disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. The Director provides ongoing support and advocacy for all students with disabilities, both in and out of the classroom. This role is directly responsible for receiving and evaluating documentation to determine and facilitate applicable disability support, appropriate accommodations, and connections to supportive services.
The Director works closely with campus offices including Academic Advising, Dean of Students Office, Residential Life, Center for Collaborative Teaching and Learning, and other critical services and resources. The Director is responsible for researching and remaining current on issues related to disability support services in postsecondary educational settings, and providing relevant programming/training for students, faculty and staff members. This role supervises an Accessibility Specialist, and manages relationships with relevant third-party providers (e.g. interpreter services, CART, assistive technology).
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s Degree in education, special education, special education administration, school psychology, higher education, or a related field.
Ability to interpret psychoeducational evaluations and other disability documentation, and determine eligibility for disability services
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in evaluating the needs of students with disabilities in higher education, and providing appropriate accommodations.
In-depth knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 & 2008 (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Familiarity with accessibility standards for use of technology
Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as related to postsecondary institutions
Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with individuals with a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences different from one’s own.
Demonstrated ability to appropriately manage confidential information with and conversations with discretion, in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
Demonstrated commitment to proactive intervention and student success
Preferred Requirements:
6-10 years of relevant experience, working directly to support students with disabilities in postsecondary settings
