Position Function:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life, this position directs, manages, and oversees aspects of student leadership, strategic planning, crisis response and management, development, and execution of a comprehensive residence life and education program serving over 5,000 on-campus residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a member of the senior leadership team and housing emergency management team and is required to be available and respond 24 hours a day, when needed. 2. Along with the Executive Director and peer senior leadership team, this position establishes goals and objectives to execute the organization’s mission, vision, and values. 3. Supervise the assistant directors for residence life and education including staff recruitment, development, leadership, community development, and student success initiatives. 4. Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of assistant directors, community directors, graduate residence directors, undergraduate resident advisers, community assistants, and information assistants within on-campus residence halls and apartments. 5. Facilitates the vision for residence life and education, apartment communities, and residential community standards. 6. Oversee the advisement and training of student leadership in residence halls. 7. Direct the coordination and facilitation of learning community initiatives. Oversees the management of student behavior and departmental conduct processes including serving as a judicial hearing officer. 8. Leads the residential community development, execution, and accountability efforts for residents. 9. Leads the development, interpretation, and implementation of departmental and university policies for staff and students; evaluates persistent and emergent research, applies to existing policies, and authors new policies as needed. 10. Manage the generation and distribution of departmental reports regarding student learning and engagement, as well as learning and satisfaction assessments. 11. Maintains an awareness of housing trends at statewide, regional, and national levels. 12. Coordinate the residence life disaster and emergency preparedness and awareness program including response, education, and preparation of staff and residents. 13. Develop strategies for resource allocation and establish responsible budget and finance management plans. 14. Establish and foster vital campus and community partnerships for living-learning initiatives for emergency and crisis management. 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Demonstrated leadership evident in effective management. 2. Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills. 3. Knowledge and practice of skills related to sales, contracting, and resource allocation. 4. Proficient knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Suite).
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Requires limited lifting of files and records; nearly all work is performed in indoors. 2. Frequent- Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to the position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress regularly. 3. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, use of hands. 4. Vision requirements include the ability to see information in print and/or electronically.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree - Residence life, higher education, student leadership, or related area 7 years of progressive experience in college student housing

Progressive supervision, leadership, and management of full-time staff experience. Knowledge of housing management up to and including housing management systems. Crisis response management, conduct, learning communities, assessment, and diverse student and staff populations. Knowledge of various software packages (including spreadsheets, word processing, and e-mail) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Extensive significant progressive supervision, leadership, and management of full-time staff experience. 2. Significant crisis response management, conduct, learning communities, assessment, and diverse student and staff populations. 3. Advanced knowledge of various software packages (including spreadsheets, word processing, and e-mail) 4. Uses relevant student development theory and evidence-based best practices to develop and institutionalize academic initiatives that support student needs and meet strategic goals. Identifies, develops, and implements academic initiatives such as study groups, tutoring, faculty involvement and support, and other academic support activities to support student learning and retention. 5. Familiarity with Title IX, Clery, and other federal laws as related to students living on campus.
