Position Summary:
Serving as part of the leadership team of Residential Life and Housing (RLH), the Associate Director of Residence Life is responsible for all department education and programming functions and supervises an assigned set of professional staff members. The incumbent provides leadership and direction in the areas of recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of professional and para-professional staff members. In addition, the Associate Director provides vision, direction and oversight for all programmatic dimensions of RLH including departmental and hall/unit programming as well as within our Living Learning Communities (LLCs). The incumbent ensures a successful Residence Hall Association (RHA), working with students and assigned staff to stimulate a strong organization and a robust activities calendar. Finally, the Associate Director serves as a front-line responder to on-campus emergencies as an administrator on-call.

TOUR OF DUTY:
Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 PM and works non-traditional hours as necessary, including nights and weekends. Telecommuting options are not available for this role.
This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:
1. Supervises, trains, evaluates and provides feedback to an assigned set of full-time professional staff members.
2. Oversees the marketing, recruitment and selection and evaluation processes for paraprofessional staff.
3. Advise department committees including RA Recruitment and Selection, RA Training & Development, Staff Recognition, and the RA Advisory Board.
4. Coordinates the onboarding process and departmental training programs for paraprofessional and live-in professional staff including trainings and in-service activities.
5. Partners with Academic Affairs in the creation, dissolution, marketing, and assessment of LLCs and Special Interest community groups in the residence halls.
6. Leads RLH programming efforts consistent with our current model and serves as a programming resource by maintaining and sharing programming materials and coordinating related training programs.
7. Works with campus partners to develop a long-term plan for the provision of late night and weekend programming focused on resident students.
8. Directs assigned staff ensuring the provision of a robust and engaging late night and weekend programming.
9. Develops and maintains a strong RHA, working to ensure that policies and procedures are followed and contribute to its success.
10. Utilizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices in all functions, promoting student success throughout.
11. Counsels students on a variety of concerns relating to contemporary student life and make referrals when appropriate.
12. Manage the departmental budget allocation for staff training, recruitment and selection and staff programming.
13. Provide professional staff on-call duty coverage as assigned.
14. Responds to crisis and emergency situations as needed.

1. Participates on assigned departmental committees and provide periodic reports to departmental and divisional leadership.
2. Plans and implements assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for assigned programs and services.
3. Establishes positive and collaborative relationships with personnel with other University departments.
4. Serves as a liaison with students and parents on issues related to residence life and housing as needed.
5. Serves on University committees as assigned by department and divisional leadership.
6. Supports and attends University events and programs.

Required Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field is required.
· Possess 4 years progressive post-baccalaureate experience in housing/residential life.
· Experience working with residential living learning communities/special interest housing.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles as well as student development philosophies.
· Ability to work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and other administrators as required.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
