The College of Social Work is seeking an experienced and talented individual to join our team as a Sr. Academic Advisor.The professional in this roleautonomously advises undergraduate students in the College of Social Work by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. The Sr. Academic Advisor provides appropriate advice related to academic planning and progress leading to graduation for students interested in and already enrolled in U of U undergraduate Social Work degrees and certificates.
The Sr. Academic Advisor will also be cross-trained to provide academic advising support for other programs offered by the College of Social Work. This position serves as a liaison to the relevant academic departments and will serve as the General Education Liaison for the College.
The Sr. Academic Advisor designs, implements, oversees and evaluates advising programs that contribute to the academic advising mission of the academic unit. May mentor other advisors but maintains an advising caseload.

Responsibilities
Meets with students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, major exploration, course planning and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution or advanced degree requirements.
Facilitates students' academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions or similar needs.
Actively participates in campus-based professional development communities including but not limited to “UAAC or other relevant campus-based organizations that advances direct skills in academic advising.” Duties include leadership roles, committee chair, etc
Uses enterprise-level data analytics and student record technology platforms to monitor student progress and guide proactive student interventions. Participates in the delivery of proactive advising strategies for assigned student populations on the basis of data analytic platforms. Oversees the implementation of intervention strategies based on analysis of metrics derived from data analytics platforms.
Proficient in degree tracking software (i.e Degree Audit), record keeping systems (PeopleSoft, Banner) and two additional advising related technologies (Civitas, On Base, Student Data Warehouse, CRM software, etc.)
Maintains students' academic files that include a record of the advising activity that takes place during each visit.
Develops and presents education programs designed to supplement or enhance academic preparedness.
Collects and disseminates information to students, faculty and departments about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
Coordinates and/or participates in the advising-related portion of new/transfer student and parent orientation sessions.
Serves on University committees and makes recommendations that affect curriculum requirements, advising processes and program development and published materials.
Coordinates data compilation, statistical reports and correspondence, depending upon the area of assignment.
Participates in local and national professional associations by serving on planning committees and presenting at conferences and seminars.
Significantly contributes to selection and training of new advising staff.
May chair search committees for new hires in department, including both staff and faculty roles.
Oversee and/or facilitate new programming communities for students with in their area, including but not limited to activities such as overseeing a mentoring program, student organizations, etc.
May mentor academic advisors and participate in hiring, training and evaluating those employees.
May represent department or area at campus-wide meetings and initiatives.
The position is distinguished from lower level advising positions in that incumbents have responsibilities for program oversight, preparing and administering budgets and dealing with more complex advising-related issues.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
4 years of direct academic advising experience.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills
