SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Director of Crisis Assessment Response and Education (CARE) Team and Student Case Management plays a pivotal role within Montclair State University's Dean of Students Office. This position oversees all aspects of the CARE Team, focusing on managing and navigating complex cases that require intervention strategies for students facing a broad range of critical and crisis-level situations. The Director collaborates closely with our diverse community to support students by assessing student circumstances, developing tailored intervention plans, coordinating a network of resources, and conducting follow-ups—all aimed at promoting student success and well-being in a welcoming environment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage coordination of the CARE team reports, ensuring timely care for students managing complex situations, crisis or experiencing circumstances of concern.
Assess and evaluate student mental health issues and/or behavioral concerns referred to the CARE team, develop individualized intervention plans, and conduct follow-up with students, family members, caregivers and external health providers.
Maintain an individual caseload of complex student cases, including outreach, assessment, meetings and follow-up with students and reporting community members.
Coordinate and assign cases, monitor progress and adherence to protocols to ensure timely case closure.
Partner with campus offices including academic departments, counseling, residence life, and university police to provide holistic support for students in crisis or at risk.
Act as a student advocate by educating the campus community on emerging trends related to student concerns, contribute to the development of policies supporting a diverse student community.
Develop and facilitate training sessions for faculty, staff, and students on identifying signs of distress and referring students to appropriate support services.
Stay informed about trends, best practices, behavioral interventions, and case management.
Serve as a resource for campus stakeholders advising on student welfare and crisis management.
Develop partnerships internal and external to the division to create vibrant, student-centered, learning-focused, and intentional co-curricular experiences.
Supervise and manage program interns and professional staff in case management.
Participate in on-call crisis response to address urgent needs and coordinate resources.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Master's degree from accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
A minimum of five years of professional work experience in a relevant setting.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
Understanding of legal and ethical standards related to student confidentiality, mental health case law and crisis intervention protocols.
PREFERRED:
Licensure or certification in counseling or social work or related certification.
Experience working in crisis intervention, crisis response process, on-call crisis response, case management, or behavioral intervention teams.
