The Coordinator of Residential Care and Support is a live-in position that serves as a non-clinical case manager, supporting residential students with challenges like academic performance, health issues, and financial insecurity, while coordinating interventions and advocating for student needs. This position also acts as the liaison to the Office of the Dean of Students, managing case distribution and ensuring appropriate action is taken. The Coordinator responds to emergencies, provides crisis intervention, and participates in the on-call rotation with other staff. They contribute to student success by creating a supportive academic environment and assisting with recruitment, room assignments, and administrative tasks.
Essential Functions
Serve as a non-clinical case manager for assigned residential students facing challenges such as academic performance, physical or psychological health, food and financial insecurity, and interpersonal relationships. This role includes guiding students through University processes, collaborating with both internal and external resources to support student well-being, coordinating interdisciplinary interventions, advocating for students' needs, and maintaining thorough documentation of all case interactions.
Serve as the liaison to the Office of the Dean of Students, managing the distribution of cases to Residence Life staff and ensuring that action is taken on those cases.
Respond to student emergencies and provide crisis intervention and management as needed, including participation in the on-call rotation with other Hall Directors and Graduate Hall Directors.
Contribute to student retention, transition, and academic success by fostering an academically supportive residential environment that promotes student achievement.
Support BGSU and Residence Life recruitment efforts, and assist summer conferences, assist with room assignments and changes, and perform various administrative tasks to support the operation of residence halls and the department.
Represent the University, division, and department on various committees and at events, providing assistance to Student Engagement and Residence Life, and completing other assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
Bachelor's degree. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
The following Degree is preferred:
Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, Guidance and Counseling, or related field.
The following Experience is required:
1 year experience working with college students in a post-secondary setting including one of the following: advising students/student organizations, responding to student emergencies/crises, or providing support or assistance to students
2 years of experience as a GA or student employee is equal to 1 year of professional experience
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate would benefit from a knowledge of college student development theory.
Experience presenting or facilitating workshops and training sessions.
Knowledge or experience of supervision practice and theory. Experience working with a student conduct process.
Knowledge of residence hall or housing operations and procedures.
The ability to make sound judgements about safety.
The ability to make referrals to other office or agencies.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication and administrative skills and a demonstrated desire to work with diverse individuals and groups.
Basic computer skills, budget management skills, and creative problem solving.
