On campus accommodation is provided. In comparison to many countries, the cost of living in Kunshan, China varies and is cheaper than most US cities. For example, phone data plan in Kunshan costs 60 RMB per month (approximately 8.2USD). A 30 KM taxi (about 35-45 minutes) can cost 45 RMB (approximately 6.20USD). The high speed train from Kunshan Station to Beijing (5 hours and 40 minutes and covering 743 miles) costs 481 RMB (approximately 66 USD).
The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position is a 12-month, full-time employee who is required to live on campus (live-in) and the RLC is responsible for helping create a safe, diverse, inclusive, stimulating, and vibrant living and learning community. Essential duties include community development, supervision of Resident Assistant teams (approximately 14), and general residence hall administration. Responsibilities will expand in scope and depth as DKU grows in size and complexity. We are looking for a 3-year commitment.
Community Development – Create opportunities for students to live, learn, and lead; Build an environment embracing our values: mutual respect, individual and social responsibility, interdependence, understanding, wellness, and resilience; Coordinate programming that challenges, supports, and inspires students to develop their potential; Oversee a community of around 150-500 residents; Adjudication of low-level cases referred to the student conduct process; Student of concern care & referral
Supervision of Resident Assistant team (6-14) – Coordinate and participate in the RA recruitment, interview, and offer processes; Coordinate semesterly trainings, weekly team meetings, and regular 1:1 meetings; Provide regular constructive criticism and reinforcement and conduct semesterly formal evaluations; Supervise and work with Head Resident Assistant
Residence Hall Administration – Collaborate with the Housing department to ensure facilities are safe, cleaned, and maintained; Directly manage a residence hall budget; Residence hall semesterly openings and closings; Maintain office hours & offer high accessibility for students
Departmental & Office Responsibilities – Lead an assigned departmental initiative (e.g., Res Life email account, student worker recruitment processes, room assignments processes, leadership programs, etc.); Assist in departmental assessment initiatives; Assist in fall and spring New Student Orientation; Serve in an after-hours duty rotation & respond to crises and emergencies as needed.
