Position Summary

The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity works proactively to address systemic inequities through professional learning, community building, advocacy, policy recommendations and organizational structures, while facilitating an integrated vision and shared responsibility for prioritizing and advancing institutional goals. The Assistant Coordinator, under the direction and supervision of the Director of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Center, provides support for the APIDA Center's efforts in providing an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and practices directed toward improving student outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion and retention, cultural heritage, overall student experience, etc. Working in collaboration with campus and community partners, the Assistant Coordinator will be trained and assist in the development and implementation of the APIDA Center's advising and programming initiatives and ensure that the APIDA Center is a welcoming space for the APIDA community at SDSU. The Assistant Coordinator will assist with Center operations which includes space management, front desk coverage, administrative and clerical work, promotions and outreach, etc.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Specialized Skills Required

  • Documented evidence of being able to take and apply feedback to improve job performance

  • Ability to understand and follow simple and complex instructions

  • Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities

  • Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaboratively with diverse constituencies, especially students

  • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to controversial, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and situations

  • Ability to navigate campus politics and policies

  • Ability to manage time effectively in order to complete a variety of tasks in a reasonable amount of time

  • Ability to ask for help and effectively assess situations and provide help to others

  • Possession of strong writing, communication, and presentation skills

  • Experience assisting or leading student-centered programs, events, and/or educational workshops

  • Demonstration of professionalism including but not limited to: punctuality, reliability, personal grooming, professional dress, etc.

  • Willingness to work opening and closing shifts during Center's operational hours

  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) histories

  • Experience working with Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities

  • Experience building community and/or creating student-centered spaces

  • Possession of at least one year of work experience

  • Demonstrated evidence of having a growth mindset

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,513 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,513 - $4,298 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University system wide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.

Supplemental Information

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
